Mobster Michael "Mickey" Marcello was secretly caught on tape predicting that if he went to prison for his crimes, he would "end up with 1, 2 years, tops."
On Thursday, he found out he was a bit off by five years or more.
Marcello, 56, of Schaumburg, could face about 7 to 9 years in prison after pleading guilty to four counts, including racketeering and an IRS tax crime, in the Family Secrets mob case. Marcello is the half-brother and trusted gopher of James Marcello, the reputed top boss of the Chicago Outfit. James Marcello and other reputed Outfit leaders are going to trial Tuesday.
Michael Marcello dutifully discussed Outfit business with his older brother while James Marcello was in prison in Milan, Mich. The feds caught it on tape.
Back in Chicago, Michael Marcello oversaw an illegal video poker gambling business in the western suburbs a lucrative moneymaker for the brothers. Marcello would talk to his employees by cell phone, something else the feds caught on tape.
Michael Marcello's guilty plea came as he had serious trouble adapting to jail life awaiting trial, sources said.
