Illinois State Wins 22-20 On Last-second TD Pass

NORMAL, Ill. (AP) ― Matt Lancaster's 8-yard touchdown pass to Eyad Salem with 1 second remaining Saturday lifted Illinois State to a 22-20 victory over Northern Iowa.

Northern Iowa (7-4, 5-3 Missouri Valley) did not lead in the game until 44 seconds remained, when Zach Davis connected with Schuylar Oordt on a 36-yard TD pass for a 20-16 Panthers lead. But the Redbirds (6-5, 5-3) went 59 yards in five plays to win it. Lancaster hit Ben Ericksen for 24 yards and then ran for 11 to get Illinois State close to the end zone.

The Redbirds built a 16-3 halftime lead on Chris Garrett's 32-yard interception return for a score and three Zach Kutch field goals, including 52- and 51-yarders. Davis threw a pair of touchdown passes in the final 6 minutes to rally Northern Iowa.
