Judge To Examine Records Of Detective In Zion Case
Detective Accused Of Using Forced Confession
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (AP) ―
A Lake County judge will examine the personnel records of a Waukegan police detective accused of abusing a man into confessing he killed his 8-year-old daughter and her best friend.
In a ruling handed down Wednesday, Judge Fred Foreman says he will decide after he looks at the personnel records if he will hand them over to attorneys for Jerry Hobbs the third. The judge did not order that the detective's entire personnel file be turned over.
The 35-year-old Jerry Hobbs is charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing deaths of Laura Hobbs and 9-year-old Krystal Tobias, whose bodies were discovered in May of last year in a park near their Zion homes. Prosecutors have said they plan to seek the death penalty.
