Juror Booted From Ryan Trial, Another Possible
Personality Conflicts, Not Avoiding Media Reports To Blame
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
A female juror has been booted from the public corruption trial of former Gov. George Ryan and another juror may be on the way out, the Sun-Times is reporting.
The expelled juror was informed of the decision Thursday night after a series of closed-door meetings among lawyers and U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer.
The ousted juror reportedly had a personality conflict with others on the panel, a conflict that boiled over and caused the woman and other jurors to repeatedly bring complaints to the judge, a source told the paper.
A second juror, a man, also could be in jeopardy of removal because he may have violated the judge's repeated order to avoid media reports of the trial. No action has yet been taken against him, a source told the Sun-Times.
Prosecutors last week requested a gag order due to jurors' possible exposure to the media.
