Expert Disagree Over Accused Woman's Mental State

Jeannette Sliwinski Charged With Murder In July Car Crash

SKOKIE (AP) ― Mental health experts disagree over whether a woman accused of causing a fatal high-speed crash is fit to stand trial.

Jeannette Sliwinski of Morton Grove is charged with first-degree murder in the July crash that killed three Chicago men out on their lunch break in Skokie.

She allegedly told investigators she had fought with her mother before the crash and wanted to kill herself.

A mental-health expert hired by the defense says Sliwinski is psychotic, depressed and unfit to stand trial. But at a hearing yesterday, a court-appointed expert disagreed.

And a third expert couldn't determine Sliwinski's mental state because her attorneys stopped interviews.

Prosecutors haven't made plans to have Sliwinski reevaluated.
