Woman To Plead Not Guilty In Fatal Crash
Prosecutors Say She Purposely Rear-Ended A Car In A Suicide Attempt
(CBS)
A 23-year-old woman involved in a deadly crash in Skokie made a court appearance Friday.
Jeanette Sliwinski hobbled into court on crutches and showed no reaction when the judge said a grand jury decided to indict her on murder charges.
Defense attorneys say Sliwinski has shown a tremendous amount of remorse over the crash that killed three musicians from Chicago.
Prosecutors say she purposely rammed into a car waiting at a red light in an attempt to commit suicide last month.
The judge is now waiting to sign an indictment against Sliwinski.
"Our client never intended to kill anybody in this manner, and we intend to prove that," said Sliwinski's attorney, Howard Wise.
Defense attorneys plan to enter a not guilty plea on the next court date.
Sliwinski has been on suicide watch at the hospital at the Cook County jail.
