Apology Issued After Suicide Attempt Killed Three
Woman Charged With Murder Asks For Forgiveness
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
A woman has issued an apology to the family and friends of the three musicians whose car she fatally hit during a suicide attempt in the north suburbs last Thursday afternoon.
"I pray and beg for forgiveness from everyone who is saddened by the deaths," Jeanette Sliwinski said in a written statement.
An attorney for Sliwinski released the written apology asking for forgiveness, which she wrote from her bed at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston on Saturday.
Silwinski, 23, had told police that she wanted to 'end it all' after an argument with her mother, when she had slammed into the back of car with Michael Dahlquist, 39, John Glick 35 and Douglas Meis', 29, inside.
Now she faces three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery in connection with the incident. A judge denied her bond on Friday.
Police said Silwinski was reportedly driving 70 mph and had run three red lights prior to hitting the men from behind at an intersection in Niles.
The three men were co-workers at Shure Inc., a Niles-based audio equipment manufacturer.
Rebecca Crawford the wife of Glick said the men will be missed.
"They were people who were so smart and brilliant and amazing," Crawford said. "Everyone feels cheated that they haven't been able to accomplish what they set out to do."
Silwinski was listed in fair condition and being guarded at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston on Friday, according to the Chicago Tribune, but was not able to be reached for comment.
