CHICAGO (AP) ― An Illinois state lawmaker is suggesting that Gov. Rod Blagojevich drive himself to Springfield one day to inspire him to solve the budget crisis.

Republican state Representative Rosemary Mulligan of Des Plaines says she is "insulted" to learn from an Associated Press analysis that Blagojevich is spending $5,800 a day on flights from his Chicago home to Springfield.

The Associated Press examined state airplane records and found Blagojevich spent $53,000 on nine flights from late May to June 7. He appears to have followed the same pattern since with flights costing an additional $23,000.

Democrats who control the Capitol cannot agree on a state budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1. Blagojevich aides have criticized the House for not working in Springfield five days a week.
