Chicagoan Recalls Scene During Va. Tech Rampage
Steve Miller of WBBM 780 contributed to this report.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (CBS) ―
Chicagoan Garrett Evans was among those injured when in the rampage at Virginia Tech this past Monday.
Evans told WBBM Newsradio 780 he was in German class when the rampage started, and he said he felt an eeriness about the day.
Initially, no one reacted to the gunshots because crews were doing maintenance work on campus, Evans said.
But a short time later, according to Evans, the noise was chilling.
"I heard noises, like, 'bang, bang. Then I heard the sounds again and I heard a girl scream," Evans said. "I said, 'Oh, my God.' The door opens real fast. (The gunman) didn't say anything. He just came in and started shooting like he had a purpose. He walked in there about business, and his business was taking lives."
As of Wednesday, Evans was in a Virginia hospital with gunshot wounds to both legs.
He said the pain from those wounds is not comparable to the heartache he has for the families of all the victims.
