Videotape No Longer Evidence In Loop Murder
Suspect In Stabbing Of Loop Doctor Still At Large
CHICAGO (STNG) ―
Chicago Police confirmed Tuesday that a person shown on a videotape from a Home Depot store has been eliminated as a suspect in the 2006 slaying of a doctor in his Loop office.
Harrison Area homicide detectives said in a release that surveillance video showing an individual reportedly linked to the killing of Dr. David Cornbleet on Oct. 24, 2006, has been eliminated as evidence.
The individual in question, whose photo was released by police and the family of Dr. David Cornbleet, voluntarily contacted police and has cooperated fully, the release said. That person has been eliminated as a suspect.
Cornbleet, 64, was found murdered in his office at 30 N. Michigan. He had been bound and stabbed several times, police said. The videotape in question shows a man purchasing items at the Home Depot that were similar to those which might have been used in the crime, according to police.
"We appreciate the assistance of the family members of Dr. Cornbleet and both local and national news media that were involved in showing the videotape early on in the investigation," Harrison Area Cmdr. Steve Peterson said in the release.
"Without the exposure, the individual in question would not have come forward to police and we would not have eliminated his involvement from the investigation," he said.
Investigators continue to pursue other leads in the case, the release said. Those include a second video from the office building, which shows a man walking into the building about 4:45 p.m. and leaving about 45 minutes later with his jacket turned inside out and pulled up to cover his face.
