Fourteen Injured In Fight At Cook County Jail
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Authorities say 13 inmates and one sheriff's deputy were injured in an altercation at Cook County Jail Sunday evening.
Chicago Fire Commander Will Knight says the officer was taken to MacNeal Hospital in serious condition.
Three inmates, including two who were stabbed, were taken to area hospitals in stable condition. Another 10 inmates were treated at the jail.
The guard was attempting to break up the fight when he was injured, said Bill Cunningham, spokesman for the Cook County Sheriff's Department.
None of the injuries were life threatening, he said.
Ten ambulances responded to the call at the jail after 8 p.m.
The fight broke out at about 7:40 p.m. in the day room of Division 10, a maximum security section of the jail, Cunningham said.
