Lawmakers Return To Capitol

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) ― State lawmakers returned to the Capitol Monday to try to find solutions for Illinois' tricky transportation needs.

Governor Rod Blagojevich met with Senate leaders and others for more than two hours.

Senate Minority Leader Frank Watson says not much was accomplished in their discussions over how to provide money for financially struggling mass transit in Chicago and road and school construction projects throughout the state.

But lawmakers plan to discuss the issues more thoroughly still and could return to the bargaining table Monday night.

They're trying to prevent the mass transit systems in the Chicago area from making severe service cuts and provide billions of dollars in construction projects, with gambling expansion a possible source of money.
