4 Being Questioned In Antoine Walker Robbery
Charges Expected Against At Least Some Of Those In Custody Later Thursday
The STNG Wire contributed to this report.
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Four people are in police custody Thursday afternoon in the robbery of NBA star Antoine Walker at his River North Home last month.
Police said charges were expected sometime later Thursday, but it was possible not all four people in custody would be charged.
Masked robbers approached Walker as he was leaving his home in the 400 block of West Huron Street on July 9 and forced him inside the home. The three men held him at gunpoint, tied him with duct tape and robbed him of cash, jewelry and his Mercedes Benz.
Police recovered the Mercedes the next day; it had been stripped of its tires, rims and stereo.
That same day, police received information that a man and woman were in possession of jewelry that was stolen from Walker's home. Police stopped the two at a stop sign near 76th Street and Cicero and, when they asked the pair to empty their pockets, officers found two watches and a diamond necklace.
Walker visited the Chicago Lawn police station and confirmed he owned the jewelry. His mother, Diane Walker, said her son was pleased to have his jewelry back, although some was still missing.
Detectives do not believe the man and woman participated in the home invasion.
A West Side woman was indicted Wednesday, Aug. 1, on theft charges for allegedly possessing property stolen by masked gunmen in the July 9 robbery. Jamie Ellis of the 1500 block of South Kedzie Avenue was charged with one count of possession of stolen property, a Class 1 felony.
A few weeks after Walker was robbed, former Bulls player Eddy Curry, members of his family and an employee were restrained with duct-tape and held at gunpoint by three masked offenders during a robbery of his Burr Ridge home on July 28.
Both robberies remain under investigation.
