Woman Charged With Possessing NBA Star's Jewelry
(STNG)
A 25-year-old woman has been charged with possessing property stolen earlier this week by masked gunmen from NBA star Antoine Walker's River North home.
Jamie Ellis of the 1500 block of South Kedzie Avenue was charged with one count of possession of stolen property, a Class 1 felony, on Thursday, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin and police News Affairs Officer Tom Polick said Friday.
Ellis is not the person who committed the robbery, but is an accomplice, according to Polick. He said police are speaking to others, but no one else had been charged as of 5:10 p.m. Friday. "The investigation is continuing."
Masked robbers invaded Walker's home in the 400 block of East Huron Street and stole his Mercedes Benz, along with cash and jewelry, about 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Grand Central District police recovered the Mercedes near Potomac and Karlov avenues about 9 a.m. Tuesday, according to News Affairs Officer John Henry.
Also on Tuesday, two Chicago Lawn District officers received information that a man and woman had jewelry taken from Walker's home. The officers stopped a car for running a stop sign about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday near 76th and Cicero, and when they asked the passengers to empty their pockets, they found two watches and a diamond necklace, police sources said. The two were taken into custody.
It's the second time Walker, 30, a Chicago native, has been robbed of jewelry. In 2000, he was robbed of a $50,000 Cartier watch at gunpoint while sitting in a Mercedes on the South Side. No one was arrested for that incident.
