Fatal North Suburban Accident Ruled Homicide
DEER PARK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
A Saturday crash in northwest suburban Deer Park which killed three men has been ruled a vehicular homicide after one driver's autopsy revealed a 0.228 blood-alcohol level, Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said Tuesday.
Alonso Ramos-Gomez, 21, of West Dundee, the driver of the 2003 Lexus ES300 which was apparently involved in a head-on crash with a cab on Lake Cook Road early Saturday morning, had a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit, according to Kildeer Police Cmdr. Robert Zujewski.
The accident occurred on Lake Cook Road near Park Hill Drive at about 5:12 a.m. Saturday morning. Zujewski said Ramos-Gomez's Lexus was traveling west and was involved in a head-on collision with a Metro Cab taxi driving east.
Ramos-Gomez and the cab driver, Jozef Zwalinski, 51, of Palatine, were killed in the crash, Zujewski said.
Octavio Carrera, 23, of Elgin, a passenger in the Lexus, died later at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. Another passenger in the Lexus, Eric Moreno, 22, of Streamwood, was treated at Good Shepherd and released.
Zujewski said he wasn't sure which car struck the other, or of the vehicles' speeds, adding the investigation would take about two weeks. The speed limit in the area is 50 mph.
The accident happened near a border shared by Barrington, Deer Park and Kildeer.
