Gadgets For The Foodie In Your Life

Some Stocking Stuffers To Whet Your Kitchen Kook's Appetite

 Make a recommendation

CHICAGO (CBS) ― What chef wouldn't want a kitchen gift from Santa?

In this edition of Table for 2, CBS 2's Vince Gerasole has some gift ideas for the foodie in your life. He found stocking stuffers certain to whet the appetite of everyone on your list.

And remember, good things often come in small packages. For the kitchen kook you know, we say go-go to the gadgets this Christmas.

Manager Yvette Hannah of Sur La Table says customers get pretty excited about kitchen gadgets.

"They get loud. They kind of jump up and down," she said.

The Palm Peeler fits in the palm of your hand when you're peeling vegetables. Non-Stick Circular Kabobs make grilling a downright pretty affair, compared to the everyday skewer. The Grid does triple-duty as a jar opener, potholder or trivet.

And their appearance might make you laugh, but the Tear-Free Onion Goggles are intended to keep you from crying when it's time to chop an onion. Take them off and rub your fingers across the Wonderbar when you're done, and the onion odor will disappear. It also works on garlic.

On the subject of garlic, the Garlic Zoom may look like a small spaceship. But if you place your garlic in the top and snap it shut, then roll it across your counter, you will be able to chop your garlic in a matter of seconds.

Over at Crate & Barrel, a friendly gadget called the Oil Pump Mister makes cooking with olive oil easier. Just pour in the oil, pump it up, and out comes a fine mist perfect for frying. And the Mini Stainless Grinder is a peppermill you can use with just one hand.

Speaking of hands, a pet peeve of Vince's has always been the plastic dish soap bottle next to the kitchen sink. But a handy-dandy container like the Simplehuman Kitchen Soap Pump can make the scene a lot cleaner and aesthetically pleasing.

Quickly grinding spices is quick business with the Cuisinart Mini Prep. Crate & Barrel manager Lynn Battoglia is a fan.

"I like it because you can do some smaller vegetables when you're really running out of time, and you look like a professional using it," Battoglia said. "Everyone looks like a professional."

And whether the Slipper Genie makes you look professional, but at least it's fun. Rather than sweeping up, you can clean the floor just by shuffling your feet.
