(CBS) The corner diner never tasted so good! This week, CBS 2's Vince Gerasole shares a Table for 2 at an Elmhurst spot you'll find somewhere over the rainbow.

A lot of us have a favorite spot like Rainbow, a casual neighborhood diner where the pancakes are fluffy, and the burgers – grilled here in a blue cheese version – really hit the spot.

But take a closer look. From side salads to omelets you build yourself, the portions are huge. Most come with a plate of chunky fresh fruit garnishes. And don't forget to check out the bountiful bread basket.

In the tradition of fine Greek restaurateurs, it's served up by the Dimitralis family.

"We're all Greek here, yes," said owner Nick Dimitralis. "There is a tradition since our grandfathers. We enjoy that – this is in our blood."

"I think places like this are a dying breed, and they deserve to be recognized,"' said our guest critic Elene.

Elene prefers Rainbow to the expanding chain restaurant scene because service here seems more personal.

"It's really the atmosphere that makes the place," she said. "They care about customers. They care about you getting a good meal here."

Elene's all-time favorite is the Greek chicken with Greek potatoes.

It was tops on Vince's list, too. The dish is crispy and savory, and the lemon infused Greek potatoes are quite pleasing. Keep in mind the complete dinner includes soup, salad and a dessert.

Overall, we found Rainbow's simple cuisine a treasure. Its atmosphere is friendly, and most of the establishment's ample portions are priced from $5 to $13.

Elene and her family love stopping by with daughter Maria every Friday. She loves that kids are always welcome.

"Kids are OK and what kids do is OK," she said.

Not just young families feel at home at Rainbow. Seniors are fans of the generous portions and affordable prices.
