The spread on the buffet table is almost as talked about as the plays on the field on Super Bowl Sunday.
As CBS 2's Derrick Blakley reports, Chicagoans are giving themselves plenty of time to put together football feasts the likes of which haven't been seen since the 1985 season.
In her west suburban kitchen, Donna Barnheisel is already bearing down, preparing to host up to 100 people for a Super Bowl party.
She plans on making chili, Italian sausage and sweets -- prepare now, party later.
"I have a big commitment tomorrow, so the things I can get done ahead of time, I will," Barnheisel said.
blakley: Most others were just starting to shop Friday night. Cupcakes with the Chicago Bears "C" and Bears bear claws were flying off the shelves at Fox and Obel gourmet grocery store.
Shopper Regina Bielkus said she is planning a Mexican themed menu, with her husband in the kitchen.
"He's a wonderful chef," she said, leaving her to enjoy the game and the halftime show.
At Sam's Liquors, Super Bowl Sunday is like an extra holiday. Football fans like Matt Abhalter were stocking up Friday evening.
"[I] got a mix of wine, liquor, and a little mini keg," Abhalter said.
And at that palace of meat, Moo and Oink, Pam Chinn filled her basket with chicken wings, short ribs, ground beef and more for her three sons, in-laws, cousins and nieces.
"I always cook for all the holidays and the Super Bowl isn't really a holiday but they're making me cook anyway," Chinn said.
If you're thinking of maybe just ordering a pizza for the game, prepare to get in line.
It's by far the busiest day of the year for most pizza restaurants. Pizza Hut expecting 2.5 million deliveries nation-wide. Locally, Giordano's is expecting 8,000.
