MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (CBS) ― Perhaps the biggest south Florida news conference of Thursday had nothing to do with Bears or Colts – everyone's heard plenty from them.

It featured Billy Joel who's singing the national anthem Sunday and Prince, who is the halftime attraction.

CBS 2's Alita Guillen reports that the media center on Miami Beach was uneventful until Thursday.

Unpredictable and impressive, Prince surprised hundreds of reporters by performing at the press preview to Super Bowl XLI entertainment.

He performed two songs, and held nothing back.

Halftime organizers touted Prince as an international icon, but said nothing about the time he bared his naked back side on live television.

This act was about a new Prince, the one who won a Golden Globe for a song he wrote for the animated movie "Happy Feet".

Billy Joel also appeared Thursday. A New Yorker who is now splitting time between New York and South Beach, Joel has been tapped for a second time to sing the national anthem.

But, he says, it's a song he's not crazy about.

"The melody is difficult everybody drops out on the high notes. It's kind of a slog actually," Joel said.

Also slated to entertain the crowd for the pre-game show are performers from Cirque du Soleil.

The big action Thursday night is expected to be an exclusive party in South Beach hosted by NBA star Shaquille O'Neal. Those not lucky enough to attend will be gawking along the street at those who are.
