More than 250 Bears fans are really happy with Devin Hester, the team's defensive back. The kick returner's Super Bowl touchdown just made them richer.
As CBS 2's Joanie Lum reports, the fans won a strange sweepstakes and now will share a $100,000 prize and were scheduled to get their cash Monday night.
Hester's historic 92-yeard kickoff return touchdown was the most memorable part of the Super Bowl for many fans, and extra important for 267 people watching the game at Lucky Strike Lanes in Streeterville.
"I had a guy jump and bear hug me. We just won money," said Lucky Strike's manager, Chris Logan.
The winners will split $100,000 for betting that the Bears would score a touchdown on the opening kickoff.
"Everyone went crazy, jumping up and down, going nuts and ordering drinks," said event sales manager Kathy Zales.
Adeel Ashraf was serving drinks at the time.
"I had two Diet Cokes in my hand. I threw the Cokes," Ashraf said.
Then, he became very busy.
"People were like 'we won money, I'll buy a round, I'll buy a round,'" he said.
Lucky Strike wanted to establish itself as a lucky place and paid insurance to guarantee the sweepstakes. Customers signed up, gave their e-mail and birth date. There was no entry fee or cover charge that night.
"Some of us were pretty excited, because we knew the history with Devin Hester, so the odds were against it," Logan said.
Lucky Strike Lanes planned another party Monday night for the winners. They will split the jackpot and get about $375 each.
