One of the biggest stars in the NBA is a hometown boy. Dwayne Wade is a Chicagoan, and he plays for the Miami Heat.
CBS 2 Chief Correspondent Jay Levine reports that this week, Wade is all about the Bears.
Wade grew up in Chicago but he's taken Miami by storm, leading the heat to an NBA title. He was playing Thursday night but can't wait for the weekend.
Wade had his game face on and was ready to go head to head with Lebron James.
Inside though, the graduate of Oak Lawn's Richards High School had to be smiling. On Saturday his Marquette jersey will be retired. On Sunday, he'll be rooting for his hometown Bears.
"I'm just excited for all of them that they have the opportunity to be in Super Bowl and be in my backyard," Wade said.
His buddy Adawale Ogunleye was at the game Thursday night, but his closest friend on the Bears is Brian Urlacher.
"Urlacher for last 5 years has been my favorite player," Wade said. "I met him for first time at the airport. We were both in McDonald's line and I was standing next to him. I was looking like that looks like Urlacher and he said that looks like D. Wade, we both had our hats on and we broke the ice and we started talking."
He expected to see Urlacher and some other Bears players at Shaq's party Thursday night, and again on Sunday when he has a special birthday surprise planned for his son -- tickets to the game.
"I haven't even told him we're going to game, but so he's looking forward to the Super Bowl, watching the game with his daddy, but going to the game is gonna be good for him," Wade said.
Wade added he's raised his son to be a Bears fan.
