EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) ― The women's softball team at Northwestern has captured its first Big Tesoftball championship since 1995 after their victory against Iowa.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, where Erin Dyer blasted a solo home run way out to the left, giving the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.

Afterward, Northwestern pitcher Lauren Delaney made their lead stand up. The Big 10 pitcher of the year tossed a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts.

The number 1 seed and 12th-ranked Wildcats beat the Hawkeyes 1-0 to capture their first conference tournament title in 13 years.

This was the third consecutive shutout for Delaney. On Friday, the Wildcats run-ruled the Minnesota Gophers in five innings, with a final score of 12-0. Freshman Michelle Batts scored two hits and five RBIs for Northwestern, and the team scored seven runs in the fifth.
