Miss. State Coach Sylvester Croom Resigns

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) ― Mississippi State coach Sylvester Croom has resigned after five years at the school. He was the first black head football coach in the Southeastern Conference.

Croom resigned Saturday, a day after an embarrassing 45-0 loss to No. 25 Mississippi in the rivalry game.

Croom led the Bulldogs to an 8-5 finish and the Liberty Bowl in 2007. But the team struggled a year later, finishing 4-8.

Croom went 21-38 overall.
