Mine That Bird Out Long-Term Jockey

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) ― Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird needs a new jockey again.

Trainer Chip Woolley said Wednesday that he and jockey Calvin Borel could not agree on a long-term commitment to ride the gelding, scheduled to run the West Virginia Derby on Aug. 1. Woolley wants someone committed to ride Mine That Bird through the Breeders' Cup in November.

Borel's agent, Jerry Hissam, said Borel didn't want to give a multi-race commitment, but would gladly ride Mine That Bird again in the future, given the chance.

Borel rode Mine That Bird to a dramatic win in the Kentucky Derby. Changing mounts in the Preakness, he rode filly Rachel Alexandra to a win before riding Mine That Bird to third in the Belmont. Mine That Bird was second in the Preakness.
