More YouTube Controversy For Cowboys' Bennett
DALLAS (CBS) ―
Dallas Cowboys tight end Martellus Bennett is in the news once again for a controversial video he posted on YouTube.
The video showcases a so-called "Black Olympics" and features a Kool-Aid, fried chicken and watermelon eating contest between Bennett and his brother Michael, a rookie free agent with the Seattle Seahawks, reports CBS station KTVT-TV in Dallas.
We asked Bennett Tuesday about the video. He said he and his brother were eating together and, in his words, "We were like, 'Man, we eating every stereotype so let's race and see who can eat the chicken the fastest, drink the Kool-Aid the fastest and the watermelon competition.' It was all fun and games."
He also said stereotypes are a fact of life, and he deals with them using humor. "That's something we deal with every day," Bennett said. "If we're able to make a joke about it, it makes it even funnier to me."
Bennett, who played college football at Texas A&M, said he posted the video online "Because it was funny."
Earlier this year Bennett, a second-year player with the Cowboys, drew a $22,000 fine from the team after insulting blacks and gays in another YouTube video.
When asked if he was surprised by the reaction to the latest video, he said, "I was surprised by the reaction, but I don't really care."
CBSSports.com national columnist Mike Freeman called the most recent video a "disgusting display."
