MIAMI (CBS) ―
Florida Marlins' left fielder Chris Coghlan won the Jackie Robinson rookie of the year award for the National League on Monday, with Oakland Athletics closer Andrew Bailey taking the AL honor.

It's the third time in seven years that a Florida player has won the award. Shortstop Hanley Ramirez won it in 2006 and pitcher Dontrelle Willis, who is now with the Detroit Tigers, won it in 2003 after the Marlins beat the New York Yankees in the World Series, CBS station WFOR-TV reports.

Coghlan, who was called up from the minors in May, topped NL rookies in batting average, runs, hits (162), total bases (232) and on-base percentage (.390).

He won the award with 105 points, receiving 17 first place votes, six second place votes, and two third-place votes. He finished sixth in the NL in batting, becoming just the eighth major league rookie in the last 50 years to hit .321 or better in a season.
