Former Notre Dame star Chris Zorich was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame Saturday, and he said when he graduated from Chicago Vocational Career Academy, he had no idea he would be a hall-of-famer.
Zorich played tackle on a national championship Irish team coached by Lou Holtz, and won the Lombardi Award in 1990. He joined 19 other college football greats in the induction ceremony Saturday in South Bend, Ind.
He spoke to CBS 2's Howard Sudberry about his stellar career.
"I really feel as though in the beginning that I conned the University of Notre Dame to give me a scholarship, and when I finally received it, my mom and I were kind of laughing, 'Hey, I'm going to get four years of education, paid for free, this is great!'" Zorich said. "Fast forward a couple years, and I have a chance to have some great football, have a chance to have some great teammates, and I get drafted by the Bears."
Zorich graduated from Notre Dame in 1991 with a bachelor of arts in American Studies, and was drafted by then-Bears coach Mike Ditka. He spent five seasons with the Bears and one with the Washington Redskins
While with the team, Zorich enrolled in classes in John Marshall Law School, and received a law degree in 2002. He was also weekly guest on the CBS 2 program "Bears Extra."
Zorich is now the Manager for Student Welfare and Development for the Notre Dame Athletic Department.
