Bulls Name Interim Head Coach

CHICAGO (AP) ― The Chicago Bulls have picked Jim Boylan to serve as interim head coach for the rest of the season.

Bulls general manager John Paxson says Boylan has paid his dues as an assistant coach and has ideas about how he wants the team to play.

The Bulls are hoping those ideas can bring change to a team that's fallen to 9-and-17, which puts them 11 games behind the Central Division leading Detroit Pistons.

Boylan is in his fourth season with the Bulls and has no experience as a head coach at the pro level. But he does have 14 years coaching in the NBA with Chicago, Cleveland, Vancouver, Phoenix and Atlanta. He also coached in the Continental Basketball Association and in college, including stops at Michigan State and New Hampshire.

As a player, Boylan helped lead Marquette to the 1977 NCAA Championship. He was later drafted by the Buffalo Braves in the fourth round of the 1979 NBA Draft.

Assistant coach Pete Myers was in charge of the team during Wednesday night's 94-79 loss at San Antonio that dropped the Bulls' record to 9-17.



Boylan replaces Scott Skiles, who was fired Monday after the team's disappointing start.
