All Blackhawks Games On Free TV
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
The Blackhawks announced Tuesday that for the first time in their history, the entire 82-game regular season schedule and playoff games will be on both cable and free television next season.
In conjunction with a current agreement with Comcast SportsNet, the team announced a 3-year agreement with WGN Television that, along with the NHL's network partners, VERSUS and NBC, will air all Blackhawks games -- home and away -- for the next three seasons.
The agreement was negotiated by Blackhawks president John McDonough, according to a release from the team.
"I am extremely happy for our fans on this proud day in Blackhawks history," McDonough said. This move was another "aggressive step" in the marketing of the team, he said.
WGN has committed to televising up to 20 games per season in HD, the release said. Comcast will televise the remaining games in HD, less those chosen by the national networks.
WGN had been the home of the Blackhawks during the 1960s and early 1970s. The last time the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup, WGN-TV televised the clinching game on April 16, 1961.
