Blackhawks Retire No. 3 Jersey

CHICAGO (AP) ― The Chicago Blackhawks are retiring jersey No. 3 to honor former defensemen Keith Magnuson and Pierre Pilote.

Magnuson played with the Blackhawks from 1969 to 1980. He appeared in 589 games, with 1,442 penalty minutes and 139 points.

The Saskatchewan native was Chicago's head coach from 1980 to 1981. He died in 2003 at age 56.

Pilote is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame and played 13 seasons for Chicago, from 1955 to 1968. The Quebec native ranked second among defensemen in the team's history with 400 assists in 821 contests.

The team has retired five other jerseys. They are Glenn Hall (No. 1), Bobby Hull (No. 9), Denis Savard (No. 18), Stan Mikita (No. 21) and Tony Esposito (No. 35).
