Blackhawks' Wisniewski Tears ACL

Defenseman Must Undergo Surgery, But Should Return Next Season

CHICAGO (AP) ― Blackhawks defenseman James Wisniewski will undergo surgery after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during offseason training.

Blackhawks team physician Michael Terry says Wisniewski should be able to return during the 2008-2009 season.

The 24-year-old played 68 games last season and had 26 points, with seven goals and 19 assists.

In his three seasons with Chicago, he's played 137 games and scored 11 goals with 32. He was a fifth-round draft pick of the Blackhawks in 2002.
