Anxiety Rising Among Chicago Baseball Fans

CHICAGO (CBS) ― So this was supposed to be the year for the White Sox to play the Cubs in the World Series… Except it appears neither team got the memo.

Cautious optimism seems to be the mood among Cubs and Sox fans Friday night. With the White Sox loss to Tampa Bay, both Chicago teams are now down two games in postseason play.

But as CBS 2's Mai Martinez reports, fans are holding out hope that one, if not both, teams will still make it to the World Series.

We want to know what you think: Which team is more likely to come back from their 0-2 deficit? Why?

For as long as he can remember, David Kritzler has been a Cubs-Sox fan. Yes you read that right… as in a Chicago Cubs fan AND a White Sox fan. He's been a season ticket holder for both teams for more than a decade.

"It's like choosing one of two children," Kritzler said.

Kritzler says he's cheered both teams on through their highs and lows, but with the Sox and Cubs both down two games in the postseason, he has his work cut out for him.

Still, the 59-year-old isn't worried. He says the teams just have to stay positive like he is.

"They've only got to win three games, so there's no reason they can't win three games in a row," Kritzler said.

Kritzler says he like to see both teams do just that and face off in the World Series, and if that happens, he admits he's starting to lean one way.

"It's the year for the Cubs," he said.

On the South Side, the optimism is just as strong for the White Sox World Series bid.

"They're gonna come back," Sox fan Joe Kroulaidis said. "You've gotta have the pride. You got have the thoughts with them. They'll do well. They'll do well."

Of course that could be easier said than done. After all there is that little technicality of a few wins that stands between the White Sox and the Cubs and the World Series.

The Cubs take on the Dodgers in L.A. Saturday night, and the White Sox host the Rays at The Cell on Sunday.
