Mom Of Urlacher's Child Denied Extra Child Support

Bears Linebacker Battling For Custody Of Child

JOLIET (STNG) ― The mother of Brian Urlacher's young son asked a judge for help Wednesday.

Tyna Robertson, 34, of Joliet, came to court because she's short of cash and asked Will County Judge Ludwig Kuhar for an increase in her monthly temporary child-support payment of $2,000, saying she needs more money to support their 1-year-old son.

Urlacher, a Bears linebacker, is battling Robertson for custody of the child. He filed a paternity suit last year to establish that he is the father, and genetic tests have confirmed that fact. The custody trial is scheduled for Oct. 16.

Steve Lake, Robertson's lawyer, explained the situation Wednesday. Robertson sold her car to make ends meet, and her credit cards are maxed out, he said. She spends $1,000 a month on baby formula alone, he added. She doesn't have enough money to buy gas to drive into Chicago for scheduled interviews in the case, he said.

Urlacher was not in court Wednesday, but his lawyers filed documents arguing that the situation wasn't dire. In the end, the judge wouldn't budge. Kuhar refused Lake's request for an immediate hearing. The judge will consider the issue at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 15.

Frowning in frustration, Robertson walked out of the room. "My concern is for my son, to make sure he is provided for," she said outside the courtroom, adding that she'd borrowed money to pay for his recent birthday party.

Lake was not working on the case when the amount of child support was set by the court. "That she gets $2,000 a month, period, for temporary support is ridiculous," he said.

Although Robertson was concerned, she remained calm. "I know the Lord will provide," she said.
