Champaign Marathon Back For 2010 With a New Date

2009 Marathon Held During Chilly April Weekend With 10,000 People

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) ― Illinois' newest marathon will be back for a second running in 2010, but organizers are moving the date.

Executive Director Mark Knutson says the 2010 Illinois Marathon in Champaign will be May 1.

This year's race was the first ever held and was run on a chilly weekend in early April.

Even with cool weather, about 10,000 people participated.

Knutson says May 1 was the one date when all of the facilities needed to run the marathon around town and on the University of Illinois campus will be available.

The run starts on campus and winds through Champaign and neighboring Urbana.
