Someone You Should Know: 'The Birdie Sisters'

Send A 'Someone You Should Know' Idea To Harry
(CBS) Tiger Woods started playing golf at the age of two and in the Bronzeville neighborhood a pair of sisters appeared to be following his lead as they began to excel in the sport at an early age.

That's why "The Birdie Sisters" are someone you should know.

When it comes to 11-year-old Erica Jackson and her 9-year-old sister Myah, it would be difficult for them to be any more serious about the game of golf. That's why they are known as "The Birdie Sisters."

Erica said, "The biggest challenge in playing golf is probably not to get frustrated once you hit a bad shot." She can drive the ball 230 yards, which is one of the reasons she is the Midwest Golf Association's national champion in the 10- and 11-year-old age bracket.

Myah is not far behind; she's driven a golf ball 200 yards and is currently the Midwest Golf Association's champion for 8- and 9-year-olds.

How did she get so good at such a young age? "I guess it's just because I practice a lot," Myah said.

Interestingly, golf is not the only activity in their busy lives. They each hold a second degree black belt in Tae Kwan Do. Both play the piano and have performed in concert and they study ballet.

Their dad, Eric Jackson, is deeply involved in their training.

Of course, he's very proud. "But more proud of the fact of the way they've matured and the way they respect the game," Jackson said.

The sisters are also high achievers in the classroom. Myah, a 4th grader, maintains a grade point average of 3.8. Erica, a 6th grader, scores a 3.9. But, golf is what both want to do for the rest of their lives.

"I want to be one of the best golfers in the world and once I put my clubs away, I want to teach people how to play golf so we can get a new female golfer," Myah said.

Myah and Erica Jackson, "The Birdie Sisters," are already some up and coming golfers and someone you should know.
