'Cuddle Parties' Help People Connect
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Feeling a little out of touch in this hurried society? CBS 2's Ann State reports a growing party trend may fill that void.
Cuddle parties consist of lots of touching, but it's not what many might think.
Rule number one of a cuddle party is pajamas stay on the whole time they are non-sexual events.
Cuddle parties are a way of framing touch in a positive way. Edie Weinstein-Moser says the parties are meant to help people achieve better intimacy and communication.
The first step, whether you're with a partner or by yourself, is to sit and chat in a welcome circle. You hear the rules, which include getting verbal permission before you touch anybody.
And if everyone agrees, the cuddling begins.
"It allows people to express themselves in a comfortable and safe environment," said Linda Hunter.
"Day-to-day life can get isolating so it's nice to have something to break out of that pattern," said Eric Merlino.
"I have finally completely overcome my social anxiety that I had for decades," Eric Hunter said.
Cuddle parties last for about three hours, with pajamas and stuffed animals optional.
Weinstein-Moser said people leave telling her they feel lighter emotionally and physically.
And who doesn't love a good hug once in a while?
Party-goers say after their cuddle sessions they feel more comfortable and less inhibited in just about every aspect of their lives.
