THE PEOPLES' PRINCESS

The union of Prince Charles of Wales and Lady Diana Frances Spencer on July 29, 1981, was the wedding of the century, a global media event. Their fairytale "happily ever after" was not to be, however, and after a troubled marriage the pair separated in December 1992. Following the official divorce in August 1996, Diana was given the courtesy title Princess of Wales.
