The Illinois Department of Child and Family Services has taken custody of a newborn Sunday whose mother allegedly killed her 5-year-old daughter. Mila Petrov, 29, of 8992 Kennedy Dr. in Maine Township, was charged Saturday with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the March 14 death of her 5-year-old daughter, Melanie Beltran, according to a release from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department. Beltran was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m. Wednesday, a spokesman with the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said. The same day Petrov gave birth to the baby boy at Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park.
