Difficult Goodbyes To NIU Tragedy Victims
Services Held Wednesday For Gayle Dubowski And Julianna Gehant
CAROL STREAM, Ill. (CBS) ―
Wednesday brought more painful goodbyes to victims in the tragedy at Northern Illinois University.
Hundreds packed Glenbard North High School in memory of Gayle Dubowski, just one of the many public tributes to honor the slain students.
Dubowski was 20 years old, and graduated from Carol Stream's Glenbard North two years ago.
She was known for her quiet way of lighting up room, a sweetheart, they say, gifted with a beautiful voice and full of faith.
"Gayle truly loved the Lord, her God with all of her heart, all of her mind, all of her soul and all of her strength," said Minister Curt Ammons.
She was shy, but devoted countless hours to campus ministry and worked as a summer counselor for her church.
Family and friends also gathered Wednesday for the funeral of Julianna Gehant. She received a full military funeral in her hometown of Mendota, Ill.
The 32-year-old spent 12 years in the Army before enrolling at Northern.
She was on track to graduate next year. Her goal was to become a second grade teacher.
