Viewers' Comments On Randy Salerno - Part 10

Send Us Your Memories Of Randy

Viewers share their thoughts and memories of CBS 2 Morning anchor Randy Salerno, who passed away in a snowmobiling accident late Thursday night.

Randy was our next-door neighbor for 20+ years, and this particular clip was just what I would've expected from him. My nephew Cam loved to watch him on the news, but had been upset that Randy never waved to him from inside the TV (he was around 3 yrs old then). Thinking of Cam at that moment was just the sort of considerate, kind person he was. He'll be missed beyond words.
--David Yelle

Our prayers go out to his family and to the CBS 2 family. One of my favorite segments was when he switched jobs with Barb for her Birthday. I laughed so hard. He will truly be missed, but I know he is making people in heaven laugh as much as he had made us laugh on a daily basis. Rest in Peace.
--Maria

Just want to say how sorry I am for the loss of Randy, I know it was very hard to watch tv this morning without him. I was glad to see all of you were there reporting the news and remembering your dear friend. My heart goes out to all of you, to his family, and all who knew him. His presence will be missed by so many, but never forgotten. He will always be a part of our memories. I thought of Randy all weekend, of his family, and all of you there at Channel 2. I prayed that God will be with you all during this difficult time. Take care.
--Mary S., Wadsworth

My heart is broken! I turn on my TV this morning and looking at an empty space on the set like an empty space in my hart. He made mornings more easy and enjoyable. God has taken away one of his angels and we will miss him.
--Lange Family, Chicago

I have spent years waking up & watching Randy & Roseanne while getting ready for work & even if I was having a bad day he would somehow make me laugh or bring a smile to my face. I will miss him dearly. My thoughts & prayers go out to his friends & family. I feel like I myself knew him. Please keep his memory alive.
--Thank you, Tammy Kavalir

My wife and I send our sincerest and deepest sympathy to the families of Randy and CBS2 News. When the news first broke we were besieged by both denial and a great void of emptiness. The loss of anyone who sparks laughter, and enjoyment with friends, families and strangers alike is similar to a "comet streaking across the night sky". First blush is surprise and then the "Wow" factor takes hold. That describes "Randy"! We watched Randy and Roseanne on WGN and followed them over to CBS. Like Fred and Ginger they were and rightly so an inseparable news team. We will dearly miss his comet streaking across the morning sky! Thank you Randy. May God bless you your family and friends. Our thoughts of you will be in our hearts and minds forever.
--David and Connie Jackovin

My heart is broken for all of you, his family and his news family. I have shed many tears over the past few days especially this morning. Thank you for sharing all the special memories of Randy that you have been with us, we appreciate it and we do feel your pain. Randy will be missed so much, I hope our comments are somehow helping his family cope with this, we loved your husband, your dad, and your fellow news mate, he was a terrific guy and know that he was truly one in a million. God bless you Randy, you will forever be in our hearts.
--Thank You, Christina

Randy was as much a part of my morning ritual as brushing my teeth. It did not feel right in my home unless he and the "team" were on. My thoughts and prayers are with is family, his friend's family and his CBS family. The memories were great this morning, but my heart is crying.....
--Jetaun Gipson

Dear CBS 2 Chicago family,

I watch every morning, usually while getting ready for work, and I remember so many times coming out of the bathroom to see what all the commotion was on the news. It was usually something involving Randy! I started watching when Ed joined you, and I grew to really love everyone in the morning. I followed Ed to CBS because of the humor he brought to the morning news, and once he was paired with Randy, we were all in trouble. I will certainly miss all the laughs Randy brought to us all. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family.
--Shelley from Northwest Indiana

It took me some time to find a morning news show that felt right, but I knew the CBS 2 morning team fit the bill from the first time I watched Randy and Roseanne. Those of us who get up early each day form a bond with their morning news team. Randy's sudden and tragic passing is making me realize just how much you all feel like family. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you as well as with Randy's wife, children, parents and siblings. Randy cast a large and wonderful shadow, and we are all better off for having been touched by him in whatever capacity. He will certainly be missed.
--Deb Borhart

Randy will truly be missed by the Fuller household. Every morning my husband and I started our day with Randy and his team. What a great inspiration to all. He was the most loving, caring anchor man we have ever watched .Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and children and his Channel 2 family (especially Roseanne).
--Annis and Ernie Fuller

I would like to say I always enjoyed watching Randy knowing somehow he will come up with something to make each and everyone of us smile. Roseanne I still look forward to seeing you in the mornings. I watched the both of you when you where on the other station together. I would also like to say God bless Randy and his family and friends I did not know him directly but he did make every one feel like they knew him. Again God bless to all and I wish the very best to his family and I will always hold a special prayer for you Roseanne I know the two of you worked together a long time he will be missed.
God Bless, Thomas, Wilmington

I have been a fan of CBS News since arriving in Chicago a few years ago. When I first heard about Randy's accident it took my breath away and I spent the weekend feeling as if I lost a family member. Randy became everyone's family who watched the CBS News. He was everyone's big brother. Your newscast this morning 1/28/2008 confirmed why I felt so badly this weekend. Many times what you see with TV personalities is not what you get - not with Randy! Seeing the genuine pain, respect and admiration you all had for Randy and learning more about Randy's life truly told a story... Randy will be missed. I know he was watching over the team with a proud smile (and a few jokes) as you remembered him this morning. My prayers are with Randy's family and all of you.
--Yvonne Williams

Dear Roseanne, Susan & Ed….and all of CBS 2 Chicago,

My deepest sympathy to each of you. As I watched today's (Monday – 1/28) broadcast I was so touched to see all of you. It broke my heart to see Randy's chair empty. What a tribute to your dear friend to continue the show. Not knowing Randy, other than waking up to him every weekday morning, I'm sure that's exactly what he would have wanted. I would like to share this one thought with you. A few years ago I lost both my children in a car accident. Over the years I've had many people tell me what an inspiration I am to them. I didn't quite understand what they meant. After seeing the three of you this morning, I now understand. Each of you touched me with your strength and obvious love for your dear friend. You are absolutely right when you say it won't be any easier tomorrow, the next day or even a month from now. It has been over five years since my children passed and it isn't any easier….but you have to get up each morning and put one foot in front of the other and go forward. Thank you for showing this to me and all the viewers. I'll certainly miss seeing and listening to Randy each morning, but will look forward to each of you being there for me as I get ready to start my day. God Bless each of you and all of Randy's family, personal and extended. Though we never met, please know I'll keep each of you in my thoughts and prayers as we move forward.
--Monica Trueblood, Algonquin

Getting up in the morning was never easy, but with Randy, the day always would begin with a laugh and a smile. Today it started with a tear. May God be with his family and friends over this tragic loss.
--Jack Demirgian

I returned from vacation yesterday and couldn't believe it when I saw Randy's picture in the celebrity obituaries in the Tribune. This is so sad and I am heartbroken for you, his colleagues, having lost a fellow worker a few years ago, I know what you are going through. I am so sorry for you and his family. It just won't be the same waking up in the morning without Randy. His dry wit and the obvious love he had for you and his family. You all are like family to us the TV viewers, I have been watching you since before Randy and Roseanne joined Channel 2. My prayers are with you and his young family. God Bless you all. Hugs
--Jacque Sweetman

Our deepest sympathy to Randy's entire family (Mother, Father, Sister, Brother, nieces, nephews and most to Wife and children). We feel blessed to have known Randy through Channel 2 News in the morning. He made getting up early so much more pleasant. He had the dry sense of humor that so few people have. As much as his family will miss him so will the family of Channel 2 with includes his fellow workers; especially Roseanne, Ed, Bill, Kris, and Susan. The Channel 2 family includes the thousands of us that had the pleasure of getting to know him and his family through his daily reports. He is a one of a kind news reporter. We will keep everyone in our prayers. And please, family and friends and especially Roseanne during this hard time remember "What passes is the sorrow; but the memories are ours to keep." God Bless us all. Peace to Randy and his family.
--The Balogh's

I was out of town until Sunday and just heard the sad news this morning. I only watch the Channel 2 morning show as they're the best on the air and I loved to watch Randy and Roseanne together. What a team! I am so sad that we've all lost such a wonderful person to a senseless accident. My prayers are with both his families; those at work and those at home. I will surely miss him.
--God bless you all in your grief, Marcy Hess

My husband shared the news with me this morning when I arrived at work – I think I'm still in shock. We were introduced to Randy Salerno while he was at WGN – a friend shared with us what a great news show it was and we were hooked!!! Once Randy and Roseanne moved to Channel 2, we followed and loved the camaraderie between all of the morning personalities – the banter between Randy and Ed Curran always gave us a little giggle. Randy seemed to "give" as good as he "got" from everyone on the show. Our prayers go out to all who loved him and we'll certainly miss sharing our morning coffee with him.
--Lisa T.

Ed, Roseanne, Susan and Chris:

I watched your morning program today, and want to commend you on the wonderful job you did. I know how hard it was for you, I'm sure everyone who watches the morning news was glad to see all of you, as I was. Condolences on your loss - all who watch the 5:00 morning news will miss Randy too. But, after watching this morning's show, I know your team will do well and I'll be watching every morning.
--Ann

Thank you to the morning crew for leading by example. In times of heartache and sorrow we must move forward, however in our hearts never to forget Randy. Roseanne thank you for sharing such a private moment of your life, you let us in to share in your sadness and loss of a friend. I applaud Channel 2 for making the passing of Randy such a true life moment. You should all feel wonderful and know that you have honored Randy and shown him the love and respect that he deserves. I'm sure his family appreciates your loving remembrance of him. Stay strong, don't be afraid to laugh, and it's still ok to cry.
--Susan McGuffin

We feel like we've lost a friend, even though we never knew Randy personally. Thank you for sharing all your memories. Randy leaves behind a wonderful legacy of laughter and genuine kindness and he will be missed! You all are in our thoughts and prayers.
--J.H., McHenry

I watched this first Monday morning's broadcast without Randy - just his empty chair. I cried with the entire news team this morning, and I laughed too, remembering Randy. Still, today, it is hard to believe he is gone. To the news team: thank you for going on-air this morning. You put on brave faces even though your hearts are broken, and that brought comfort to all your viewers. Randy was smiling down on you this morning, as he will every morning.
--Laura

Randy's zany wise cracking at an otherwise sad ugly daily news was a true blessing for all the viewers. He is sorely missed already however I count myself very luck to have recieved his unique humor and positive slant on life. I remain broken hearted over his loss.
--Sincerely, Carol Reedy

To Roseanne, Ed, and the rest of the am team,

Randy will be sorely missed. He brought a spark to the team that cannot be duplicated. Roseanne, he made you laugh and brought out the very best in you. Ed and Randy's fun and games will be not be forgotten. I will forever see all of you in that big red car. Randy lit the TV screen when that commercial was on - He looked so happy and in his element. Ed and Randy's "Day at The Bean" will also be one of my favorite memories along with the office full of post-its commercial. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I hope CBS finds someone that can subsitute ( Randy was your true co-anchor) as your co-anchor, Roseanne, that will add that spark and help you shine and laugh the way that Randy did. I enjoyed watching you together. Take care.
--Jan

I am 66 years old and no one's death of an individuaI I did not know personally has saddened me more. He was the highlight of my morning.and even during the day I would remember his wit and humor. I can only imagine the grief the television team at CBS 2 morning news and his family must feel. The only consolation is that he made the world a better place. It is hard to write this between the tears and sadness I feel. Some of the grief is because I will miss him so much but mostly it is for the CBS 2 morning team that worked with Randy, his young children, his wife, Randy's parents, and all his many friends. I will never forget him and how very special he was. The more I ready about Randy, the more respect I have for a life that ended way too soon. Thank you morning news team for having the courage to be able to carry on. Randy would be very proud. You all are very special people whose lives have been forever changed with the loss of your wonderful friend and co-worker Randy Salerno
--A CBS 2 morning viewer from Sugar Grove

To Roseanne , Ed, Susan, Bill, Kris and all at CBS 2,

A lot has been said in the past several days about what a great man Randy Salerno was, and some people have said he was the reason that they watched Channel 2 in the morning. He was great, and he will be missed, but please, do not let anyone sell any of you short. I have watched your news show every morning because of all of you. You are all very talented, and you make getting up for work every morning easier (especially knowing that you have all had to get up way earlier than I, to be on the air at 5am) I am a fan of your show, and will continue to watch every morning at 5 am. Thanks for being on the air today-it must be so hard for all of you, and thanks for replaying the clips of Randy.
--Good luck to all of you in the days ahead, a friend

Dear Roseanne, Susan, Ed, Kris, and Bill,

As I sit in my home this morning at 6:52 a.m. watching you pay tribute to Randy, I am both laughing and crying. Randy's dry sense of humor and crazy antics were a part of evey morning in our household. The love that is felt towards Randy from all of you is so visible. Know that all of you, as well as Irene and their kids are not alone. There are thousands feeling the pain that you are all living with right now. We all know the sadness you know and our hearts are also broken. The television set has become a part of the American family and to those we see on TV, they also become a part of our familiy - we bring them home; they are part of the breakfast, lunch, and dinner table. The people we regularly watch on TV become a part of us and we, them. Randy was a part of us and this tremendous and unfair loss is felt right to our very core. May you find some strength and solace in knowing that you have been blessed to have him in your lives', even if the time was brief. Carry the memories and the love you feel for him in your hearts. Roseanne, I am especially sad for you. You are doing a great job this morning, but I can see the sadness in your eyes. Susan, Ed, and Kris are all holding you up right now and it is Randy's footprints in the sand. He is carrying you. I am sure you are all wondering why? I know I am. Randy Salerno was full of life, with a beautiful family and wonderful friends. He had this wacky sense of humor, a beautiful smile, a special connection with his "on air" family and he died way, way too young. Life is very unfair at times. I am also very sad for his life-long friend, Scott who is now being charged with homicide. What a terrible tragedy this has been for everyone. It makes one wonder just what good can possibly come out of all of this. I guess that is where our faith comes in. We just have to believe and trust that God is with us and He knows how to get us throught this sadness and confusion. We miss Randy. We love all of you. Even though you don't know us, you are a part of our family and we are truly sharing this loss with you.
--Much love, Kathy & Dave Kobak, Palos Heights

My husband and I will miss Randy. He was one of a kind. He would make us laugh and the combo of Randy, Ed and Roseanne was unsurpassed.
I am sorry for the loss of such a nice, humble and funny guy. He can't be replaced. In our house we share you loss. We have been watchers since the beginning and it feels as if we loss a friend.
--David and Maria

I've been watching the Channel 2 Morning News for I don't know how many years and this group always makes my day start off with a laugh or feel great about getting up in the morning. I was devastated when I heard about Randy, it's like loosing part of your family. I get ready for work and have breakfast watching your show and most of the time end up having a good laugh to start off the day. It's so hard to believe Randy is gone and my heart felt condolences go out to his family and the CBS 2 family for such a loss. Its just so hard to believe. I have a poem that I like to share that I received when my father passed away 20 years ago:

Please don't sing
Sad songs for me.
Forget your grief and fears,
For I am in a perfect place,
Away from pain and tears.
I'm far away from hunger,
And hurt and want and pride.
I have a place in heaven,
With the Master at my side.
My life on earth
Was very good,
As earthly lives can go,
But Paradise is so much more
Then anyone can know.
My heart is filled with happiness,
And sweet rejoicing too.
To walk with God
Is perfect peace,
A joy forever new.
May you find comfort in knowing
that your Loved one is in God's care.

Perhaps they
Are not stars,
But openings in
The heaven
Where the love of
Our lost ones
Pours through
And shines upon us
To let us know
They are happy
They are with us forever

--Peace to all... Linda Seidler

I remember Randy sitting next to me in one of our classes in 8th grade. He told me" I want to be a news reporter". I told him, "I don't even know what I want for breakfast, never mind my career." What a surprise when one morning I turned on my TV and there he was. Now that's "focus". He will be missed.
--Teri

I watch Channel 2 every morning at 5 AM because I enjoyed the antics of Randy and Roseanne, along with Susan and Ed. As I watched this morning, and seeing Roseanne choke up, my heart went out to her, and I began to cry. Randy was so much a part of my life every morning as if he was part of my family. I remember the time that Susan couldn't make it in and he had to do the traffic, and he didn't know what to do with his hands, and he kept clapping them together. Ed I think was making fun of him, or maybe it was Roseanne. You could feel the love that each member of the team felt for each other. My sympathies go out to all of the CBS 2 family, for their loss of a great man, who will be missed by many of us who did not know him personally, but still felt like he belonged to us.
--Alexis Woss

Randy didn't know us, but my family and I feel as though we've known him
for years... We watch the morning news every day -- our 16-year old son
Mike "grew up" watching Randy & Roseanne (Ed, Susan, Bill & Kris too,
of course). When we first heard the news Friday morning we felt as though a personal friend had been taken from us. We are so sad.God Bless his wife and children... you are in our thoughts and prayers.
--The Breitung Family

Dear Roseanne, Susan, Ed, Bill, Kris,

My husband works 3rd shift and the only way I could fall asleep was with the TV on. I made sure that the TV was always on channel 2 when I started to fall asleep. I never used an alarm clock - the voice of Randy and Roseanne would wake me up every morning. The dedication to Randy is so heartwarming and yet almost unbearable. I am so sorry for the loss and his family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers. I never met Randy and I know how the loss will affect me.
--God Bless, Connie

I will miss Randy's smiles and jokes every morning from 5 to 7. My television is my alarm clock and I'm awakened by the laughter of the CBS morning team that jump starts my day. My thoughts and prayers go out to his lovely family and the CBS staff. Also thanks for the memories.
--Linda Bynum

I just want to sent out my deepest condolences to Randy Salerno wife, children and family, and to the cbs2chicago morning family, also to everyone at CBS 2 Chicago. I never met the man, but he did make me laugh in the morning as I am/was getting ready for work. I will truly miss him making me laugh and him making everyone at the morning news crew desk laugh, sincerely it really did make my mornings. I hope that Roseanne, Ed, Susan, Kris and Bill-everyone at his morning news family will find the strength to keep up some kind of a positive attitude that he had and passed on.
--Julianne M. Selk, Berwyn

Randy, Rosanne, Susan and Ed were my "family" now that I am old and my children are married and gone. As an early riser, I loved Randy because he always brought smiles to my face! My heart full of prayers goes out for the Randy's wife and children an for his CBS family. Randy was a kind wonderful human being who knew how to make people smile and laugh! Two of the nicest things one human can do for another!! God Bless you Randy!
--Jean Mair

All I know is that I cried all through your memories today. Randy was a key part of the morning show, making everyone laugh. I feel like I lost someone I knew. He made Roseanne, Susan, and Ed laugh so much and he made me feel like I was in on the joke. I loved his sense of humor and I always knew he'd have something to say. I don't know how you all are putting on such brave faces when faced with such a huge loss. Randy will be sorely missed in my morning routine. Life is so short – value every second.
--Sincerely, Linda Darlington

He was like family, the only reason why I watched CBS news was because of both Roseanne and Randy. My prayers go out to his family both at home and at the station. He will be missed and I have a void in my heart again. I lost my mom and twin in the last years I know he will make them happy in heaven.
--Thanks, Annette Gean, Romeoville

Mrs. Salerno, Randy was a young Joel Daly or Fahey Flyn; a real Chicago newsman. Randy was a bad-mamma-jamma, now just reporting from heaven.
--A friend, Gary Frank, Crete, P.S. My prayers are with you

I have always been a biased Channel 2 news watcher. But, I haven't had a "favorite" newscast team since the days of Bill Kurtis and Linda McLennan. I found it with Randy Salerno and Roseanne Tellez! They made the mornings so enjoyable. Randy made me laugh every morning. He always put his own unique delivery on the news and he always made me chuckle, whether it was with a straight-out joke or simply his sarcastic wit in delivering a story. I obviously never knew Randy personally, but I was extremely saddened when I turned on Channel 2 last Friday and heard what had happened. He truly left big shoes to fill and his presence will be missed. I will still be watching Channel 2 news in the morning and great job to the others...Roseanne, Ed, and Susan.
--Kasandra Wydra

To all of you on the news team we share your loss. Randy and you have been part of our family and will be missed. People identify with the people they watch everyday as we do and treat you like family. After meeting all of you in person and sharing the morning together on the news cruise in Aug 06 Randy and all of you hold a special place in our hearts and prayers. Randy is truly a genuine down to earth person. To Randy's wife and children and all of you on the news team, Susan, Ed, Roseanne and Bill our heart felt condolences. Randy and all of you treated us like family.
--The Popovich Family, Munster, Ind.

My deepest condolences to the family of Randy Salerno and the entire CBS 2 family. I am a preschool teacher and all of you, especially Randy, made those early mornings writing last minute lesson plans and getting ready so early in the morning, a bit more bearable. You all are wonderful! Thank you Randy!! You will be missed!!!
--Mindi in Merrillville

My wife and I have started our day with the Channel 2 News for years.
This Monday was going to be heartbreaking. We can't express enough sympathy for Randy's family, and for the entire Channel 2 team. We are proud of you for carrying on in spite of this terrible loss. Randy's empty seat was all the testament required for the loss of his humor, wit, and giant heart.
--James & Lori Brophy

I know that you are all crying on the set, but we are also crying in our homes. We will all miss Randy. I laughed first thing in the morning while I watched "the team" on Channel 2 and it gave me the lift for the day. It helped getting ready for work, easier. Thanks Randy for the time you did get to spend with us. I'll still think of you each morning, in my prayers.
--Lillian Kohler, Villa Park

Words can not express the sadness of losing a husband, father and friend. Although I did not know Randy on a personal level I enjoyed watching him and Roseanne while getting ready for work, he had such a "contagious" personality you felt like you knew him a lifetime. My sister lost her husband (she was 32) in an accident on his way home from work leaving her with 6 children to raise, the heartfelt pain is always there but, with the support from friends and family and the great memories, you are able to move forward.
PS, all 6 children have gone to college and are successful their dad would be very proud!
--With Sincere Sympathy, Sue

Just a couple of days before I heard the shocking news of Randy's passing, I was thinking about the great chemistry and camaraderie of the morning news crew -- Randy, Rosanne, Susan, Ed, Bill, Kris -- and how lucky I was to have them help me get my day going. Randy was so down to earth, and his humor and broad smile touched all of us. He will be sorely missed. My heart goes out to all of you at CBS2 and to his family.
--Anonymous

Roseanne, Ed and Susan,

I have truly enjoyed starting each morning with you and Randy.
My deepest sympathy to all of you. Randy seemed like the kind of guy you would want to be your friend. It just won't be the same without his wit and humor. This is truly a very sad and tragic happening. Thanks for sharing so many wonderful memories of Randy.
--A faithful morning friend :)

I had the privilege to meet Randy while on my job twice. I work construction for a utility company. The first time he was interested in our work and struck up a conversation with us. He was genuine and sincere, you could tell right from the start, by the way he approached, and talked to you. Then a year or two later, we saw him again, and he recognized us and remembered us. We meet quite a few people everyday, but Randy was one of the more honest and warm guys. More like a friend you grew up with. He will be missed. Although I didn't know him personally, I feel as though I've lost a close friend after watching him all these years. There is definitely a void in my routine with him gone now. My prayers and sympathies go out to his families and loved ones. We'll miss you Randy. God Bless you.
--Mark

My heart is broken for the Salerno family and his family at CBS . It was a very sad weekend for Chicago everyone was feeling your pain. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time I wish everyone peace. God is with you that much you can count on.
--Anonymous

Peace…
--Scott Kerwin

Randy came into our homes and our lives everyday. I feel as though I personally lost a close loved one, although I only knew him through his "on air" television personality. He will be missed dearly my many and heart goes out to his family and friends.
God Bless.
--Anonymous, DeKalb

This was such a difficult morning for me waking up without Randy, he was such a delight. As tears roll down my cheeks seeing Randy's empty chair, I will always remember the mornings with his smiling face, and the joy he brought to so many people. There was never a grey day in Chicago, he always brought sunshine to each and everyone of us, he will be so deeply missed. As I write this, I know he is smiling down on all of us with that big beautiful smile of his. My prayers and thoughts our with the CBS family, and especially to the Salerno family. You will always be remembered.
--Sandy Aiello, Downers Grove

I offer my deepest condolences and prayers to the Randy Salerno family and CBS 2 news. I enjoyed waking up to Randy and I enjoyed his sense of humor. He reminded me of my Husband's humor. It was quick and with a straight face. My son and I will surely miss him. He had me laughing several times during the morning news.
--Lois M. Delmas, Palatine

I wake up early every morning to watch Randy and Rosanne and the rest of you. You all feel like part of my family and I am so very sad about Randy's sudden death. He always made me smile with his dry sense of humor and because of him my day always started out better. Randy was loved by so many because he was such a nice guy who touched everyone in a special way. Thank you for coming to work and sharing your memories with us today. I know that it must be very difficult for you, but seeing so many happy scenes with Randy has been a really thoughtful tribute. My sympathy goes out to you and Randy's family.
--Sandy Freeman, Valparaiso, Indiana

I have only been watching for about 2 years, but I have to get up early morning at 4 as I drive a school bus, and I thought that he was great! He had a wonderful sense of humor and I loved his web searching every morning, the neat pages he always found. It is really a shame for someone so young!!!!! A great man and will be sorely missed!
Diane Lowery

My morning starts at 0430 every day and I couldn't wait until the Network news finished and the 0500 morning news started with Randy, Roseanne, Ed and Susan. There was humor and professionalism. Although not personally knowing Randy, I feel a loss as many others are also experiencing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time. May everyone gain strength knowing he is looking down from the heavens and he will forever be remembered.
--Carolyn

Randy will be greatly missed...My morning always starts at 4:40am and Randy and the morning crew keep me moving..My husband laughs at me most mornings as I dance between the kitchen and living room to hear/see what Randy has to say....He always made me smile/laugh....Our thoughts are with his family both at home and at the station.
--Nicki & Steve Flick

If you had to get up early for work, what better way than to watch Randy and the gang. He made it fun to be up and watching the show. My heart goes out to his family and his CBS family. I don't know how you will go on but may God be with you and comfort you. Remember God gave us memories and a sense of humor to be able to cope with the death of a loved one.
--God Bless you all, Judy

Dear Rosanne, Susan, Ed, Kris and all at Channel 2 Morning news
I'm now watching the morning news. My heart goes out to you all at CBS News on the loss of Randy. He was so special! All of his memories on the news was so good I just can't think of one that was so memorable than the other. I do know that he always gave me a chuckle! I will truly miss him!

Aloha to the Whole CBS Team & to Randy's wife, family, parents, his sister and brother! I just wanted to say thank you for making my mornings interesting. Randy was funny and I always enjoyed when he teased any of his friends on the set. I just wanted to say that I will offer prayers for all of you as you deal with his loss particularly his wife and family. My prayer is that his family get some peace of mind after this tragedy and they will move on and feel comfort and that God will bless them with new energy and peace. May God bless you all.

Our mornings in Laporte Indiana will never be the same. I've been getting my son up for school everyday to Randy. We barely even talk to each other when channel 2 news with Randy Salerno is on. It woke us up with his humor and wit. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and everyone at channel 2 Chicago.
--Mary Bassett

I've been starting my morning with Randy for the past 2 years. He will be sadly missed. My heart goes out to his family, friends and the CBS crew.

A bright star went out in Chicago with Randy's passing. My sympathy to his family and his wonderful friends and co-workers at CBS. I never met Randy personally but feel like I knew him and have lost a dear friend. He will be missed by more people than his family and co-workers will ever know. Randy's spirit will shine down on all of you always...he will be the brightest star up in the heavens giving inspiration to everyone he knew and touched. God bless you all.
