Viewers' Comments On Randy Salerno - Part 5
Viewers share their thoughts and memories of CBS 2 Morning anchor Randy Salerno, who passed away in a snowmobiling accident late Thursday night.
Randy made it a pleasure to get up early and have a few moments of fun before facing the work day. We will miss him dearly. He will be in our prayers.
-- Cass Donna Tyrkala, Addison
My mornings will never be the same.
I've enjoyed watching Randy every morning while getting ready for work.
His wit & sense of humor will be missed by many.
I extend my condolences to his wife & children & his CBS family.
-- Geralyn Zanoni
It was always a pleasure to work with Randy when he came to report from the Statehouse. The consummate reporter in front of the camera, and friend to all behind the camera.
-- Walt Lewis, Springfield, Ill.
We have just learned of Randy's passing. Yes, we call him by his first name as we have been watching him for years. We started with him at Channel 9. He was so obnoxious that we just loved him. It was contagious!!! We moved to Channel 2 when he moved over with Roseanne. We thought, now he will need to change his silly ways. But no, he was , I think, more annoying. We liked him even more. He was so genuine through all of that sarcasm. He will sorely be missed. Our deepest sympathy go out to his family and friends (I was going to say co-workers but that did not seem to cover the relationship enough. It shows that all of you truly care for each other.)
-- Carol
Randy will be so missed by his viewers and also his close friends on and off the air and most certainly his family..Roseanne, Susan and Ed and the others must be a devastated as everyone is...God rest your soul randy...Pat in Joliet
I am crushed. I feel as if I've lost a very important member of my own family. Chicago has indeed lost a beautiful spirit. He will be sorely missed by many. I loved his quick wit, and his great sense of humor. In the mornings during the work week when I can barely open my eyes at 5:30 am to get up to get ready for work the sound of Randy's voice resonating in my ears as my television turns itself on automatically made the dreaded process of getting up more delightful. After hearing his voice in the mornings, I'd always shake the sleep out of my senses and rise up to see what antics Randy, Rosanne and the rest of the team were up to. Even through his sarcasm one could see that he had a very loving warm heart; he had a very special way of drawing you in. He was indeed a unique individual.
I was actually one of the luck people who got to see Randy in person this past summer when he and Roseanne made a commercial for the station. I guess when I stop and think about it, I always want to remember him behind the steering wheel of that beautiful red convertible he and Roseanne were being pulled down the street in on that very beautiful summer day.
My prayers go out to his immediately family, and all his friends, and family who are in the news industry.
Respectfully,
Diane K. Hodges
Randy was always a good guy, a gentleman and an honest reporter. Over the years, I had the pleasure to talk to him on and off camera. I'll miss his great smile, and for being there, to bring us both good and
not so good news, along with his great wit.
-- Jerry Pritikin aka The Bleacher Preacher, Chicago
I have enjoyed watching Randy every morning, he always made me laugh. I will miss him, I feel as though I have lost a good friend. -- Sheila Shugarman
My prayers and heartfelt condolences to the Salerno family for their tragic and untimely loss of Randy. Even though he is in the hands of the Lord, he will be sorely missed.

I am truly sorry to hear about randy salerno.ireally enjoyed his expertise anchoring & reporting on wgn & cbs2. He could be serious or funny which I really liked. He'll be sorely missed.
-- Bob Ostrovecky, Westmont, Ill.
As a former assignment editor at WGN-TV, Randy was a phenomenal reporter to work with. You always gave him the top story, knowing he would put together an excellent package and a great live shot. Having the opportunity to work with him as a field producer while covering former President Bill Clinton down in Champaign a couple days after the Monica Lewinsky story broke was an experience that reminded me why I loved working in television. He always thought outside the box, trying to do things a littlle bit differently than the other stations covering the same story.
Randy's quick wit and humor made it difficult to win an argument with him about politics, me being a Republican, he a Democrat or why the SOX were better than the Cubs. Randy was the Cubs fan.
He was a pleasure to work with and I will miss him.
-- Matthew Towson
You have my prayers and sympathy's, Randy made my days easier with his calm humor. I thought of him as family. My brother is gone. God Bless his family and friends. -- Dorothy Patton, Palos Hills

Randy and Rosanne were the reason I watched the CBS 5:00 am news each day. Randy's wit and sense of humor always made me laugh. He had great chemistry with Rosanne and were a real team. Watching them was part of my routine each weekday. I felt like they were a part of my family and I am sitting here crying because I can't believe he is gone. My condolences to his family and his co-workers.
-- Linda F.
My husband and I loved watching Randy and Rose Ann in the morning. He started our mornings and brightened our day with his wonderful sense of humor. The morning team has great camaraderie between them. I'm sure he will be sorely missed by all.
We extend our deepest sympathy to his family, his team and his friends. We are deeply saddened.
Regards.

I couldn't wait to finish my shower each morning so that I could tune into the news to see Randy and the rest of the team and their comments and funny takes on things because if I was late to tune in I would feel that I missed something extremely funny. Randy made me laugh every morning and the chore of getting ready for work was made pleasant by all the laughs and antics he provided. My family and I will miss him so much. Rest in Peace Randy.

My deepest sympathies to Randy's family and to those who were fortunate enough to call him coworker and friend. Today was full of a lot of tears but I also had some of the best laughs today that I have had in years. But that was Sal. You can't think about him without remembering some belly laugh he caused or some goofy story about the good old days.
I worked with Randy in the mid and late 80's in Peoria. By his third day it was obvious he was the best reporter in the newsroom. Though we would become tight pals, I let too many years get by us and each time we talked or e-mailed we would agree "We gotta get together, we gotta hook up soon."
I learned a tough lesson. Keep in touch with those you love and cherish the times you have together.
I love you Sal. You helped me see the world from your twisted, sarcastic, bizarre point of view and for that I am a better person.

Every morning after getting out of bed, I would turn on the CBS2 morning news. I enjoyed the deep chemistry the entire crew had. It was obvious that Randy was the glue that made that morning show so enjoyable to watch. I also loved hearing his input on Garry Meier's radio show. He seemed so down to earth. I will miss his great sense of humor. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family -- Jimmy B. Lifelong Chicagoan.
He will truly be missed! The comradry of the morning show keep me watching, the closeness of the whole morning team. His quick wit, his smile, he always found the humor, the upside of things, we have lost a very very adoring, loving, caring person.
I loved him driving the red cadillac in the one commercial and when he introduced himself as Roseann. How sad for us all that he will no longer be with us!
My condolences to his family in their loss. He will greatly be missed!

IT TRULY HURT MY HEART TO HEAR ABOUT RANDY, MY HEART GOINGS OUT TO ALL OF HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY, HE WAS LIKE FAMILY. I WILL MISS HIM.

To the CBS 2 Chicago Staff,
I am deeply saddened and shocked to hear of Randy's passing. I always looked forward to waking up to the news every morning with Randy, Roseanne, Susan, Ed, Bill and Kris. Randy and Roseanne's delivery of the news was always very professional, but yet they were able to have fun. The bond that Randy had with the rest of the team was obvious. The team's ability to be lighthearted, but yet be professional was a nice change. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, co-workers and friends. It's such a tragedy to loose someone you care about, but even more when they were so young.
Sincerely,
Kimberly Bonk Round Lake, IL
Randy was wonderful this summer on "American Wake-Up Call" with Garry Meier on WCKG. I eagerly listened every day to hear his updates from his Clark Griswold-style family vacation to the Ozarks. Thank you for making so many videos available so we can enjoy Randy's engaging personality during this sad time.
-- Kris M.
The morning news will never be the same!!! Randy made every day better with his humor. It was like sitting with family, enjoying each others company. My heart is heavy, I'm sure Heaven is smiling and shining A little brighter today. I will see you again someday. My prayers are for your family and their Pease!
From one of your countless sad friends. I will miss you so much!!!

I'm deeply saddened by the death of Randy Salerno. I'm eighteen years old and have woken up with Randy literally everyday of my high school years. His voice makes me want to get my eyes open and listen even at 5:45 in the morning. I loved how he always had something to say to Ed every morning that made me laugh and how well he got along with Rosanne, Bill, and Susan. He was a great guy! He always had a smile on his face. He will be deeply missed in Chicago and I'm terribly sorry for everyone at channel 2. Remember, if God brings you to it, He'll get you through it. -- Jen
My heart felt condolenses to the entire Salerno family on the trajic and sudden death of Randy. I always enjoyed watching him on WGN and then when he and Roseanne moved to Channel 2, I watched him there. He was a handsome man, funny and full of knowledge that showed on the air. He will be greatly miss by all here in the Chicagoland area.
It's a very sad day for me.
Thank you to his wife for sharing such a Great Guy with us!
You are in my Thoughts and Prayers,
Sincerely,

I didn't know Randy personally, but when Iwatched the news in the morning it felt like I did , like he was some neighbor he made me feel comfortable. -- Jeff Andrews
To Randy's family and co-workers.
We are so sorry to hear about your loss.
Every day, we wake up and drink coffee to the the CBS morning newscast. After years of doing this, losing Randy is like losing a member of our family. We will really miss his nonchalant sense of humor (especially when directed at Susan, Roseanne, and Ed.) His internet findings were also a great start to the morning.
Sincerely,
Gary and Roseanne Feltman
I could not believe the news, I thought surely they were mistaken.
Watching Randy for the many years was such a joy, every morning my brother would call to make sure I was up and watching.. I think we watched more for the laughs than the news, watching he and Roseanne interact was like watching ourselves. Our Hearts go out to his immediate family as well as his television family. As my grandmother use to say"It Matters Not the Love We Take with Us When We Leave, It's The Love We Leave Behind That Will Sustain Us"... We will hold you all in our Prayers.
-- Gina DeYoung
I will miss the home town Kid . It will not be the same in the morning.
Our Prayers go out to the family of Randy
-- RGLovejoy (Woodstock, Ill.)
Back in the early 90's, I worked as an intern at WNYT in Albany with Randy. When U2 (my favorite band) came to town with its Zoo Tour, Randy was assigned to cover the concert, and I begged him to take me.
The day of the concert he called and said, "Ready to go see U2? Be at the station in an hour."
I'll never forget his live shot. As the concert was ending, Randy was standing on the top of the live truck.
Concert-goers started to rock the truck trying to knock him off. And in true Randy style, he smiled and said, "The animals have been let out of the zoo!" Randy never missed a beat. He will be missed.

My husband and I made the switch to Channel 2 News because our pastor, Gene Appel does a Sunday Morning thought for the day. We stayed with cbs2chicago because of Randy Salerno. His dry wit jumped started our day and when he was not on the show on days he was off, the show was not the same.
Just last Sunday, as we were serving as camera operators at Willow Creek Community Church, Channel 2 did a story there. I looked over my shoulder and saw the news reporter waiting while her camera man took some footage. I wanted to go over to her just to say "Say hi to Randy Salerno, we enjoy him so much."
What a tragedy. He will be sorely missed by us. I can't imagine how the morning show team feels, especially Ed Curran. They bounced the humor off each other so well.
-- Elaine and Parry Tsangaris
I feel like I lost a member of my family. I recently wrote to Randy concerning a broadcast and still have the three emails he sent to me. I watched him and Roseanne every morning. My heart is broke. My prayers to his family and to his family on the morning show, I pray for them to have strength to go on without him. -- Unsigned
To the Salerno Family and the CBS Family:
I am so deeply saddened to hear of Randy's tragic accident. I always watch Channel 2 news in the morning and Randy's keen sense of humor always put a smile on my face. He also reported the story about my 20 year old cat Beau-Bo who was having a birthday party. The way he kept saying Beau-Bo was hysterical. He had everyone laughing. Would love a tape of that.
Anyway, my condolences to his immediate family and his CBS family as well. He will be missed.
Warmest regards,
Rosemarie "Ro" Giambalvo
The loss of Randy Salerno is devastating. I can't count the amount of times he managed to bring a smile to my face. Randy, I am going to miss you terribly. Chicago will never be the same without you my friend.
-- Chris Palm
I'm no morning person, but since I must get up early for my job, Randy's humor and presence made it all a lot easier. He will be missed.

I've been sitting here trying to hold back tears. Then I just finally let go of all that I've been feeling. Randy was not someone that came over for dinner. He was not someone that I have ever met in person. He is a person that I feel a deep lost for. I feel as if he was a part of my family. It's so sad to know that he's gone. Even though I never met him personally, I feel a personal lost with his passing. He will truely be missed.
-- Chandra Brown
I rise each morning and go downstairs. I start the coffee and turn on the TV, placed on the east wall of the family room, a window next to it. As the sun rises, it's rays filling the room, I watched Randy and Rosanne. I enjoyed their banter and news delivery. Tomorrow there will be one less ray of sun filling my room, and the morning will be just a little darker
-- Charles McMahan
Like many viewers, I was devastated at the loss of Randy. I watch CBS every morning and totally enjoyed his sense of humor. I wanted to send my condolences to Roseanne, Susan and Ed and of course his family. If it hurts me this much, and I never met him, I can only imagine how much it is hurting the people close to him. This is a terrible loss for all of us but I guess the Lord wanted him more and I hope everyone has the peace of knowing he is in a better place, especially his family.

My prayers go out to Randy and his family. I wake up in the morning to CBS 2 News, look forward to getting home after work to watch the 6:00pm news and I go to bed after watching CBS 2 News at 10:00pm. Randy always presented himself as an ordinary good guy with Mid Western values. He reminds me of some of my buddies from my college days. His family must turn to God and lean not to there own understanding but in all of their ways acknowledge God and God will direct their paths. Thank God for the years that Randy shared with his family and people in general. He will truly be missed. What a great guy!

I loved Randy and the morning show and feel terrible I will no longer get to begin my day with Randy. He was so funny with his dry wit; he will be very missed. -- Elizabeth Gillis
I have to leave early in the morning to catch a train and I always liked watching Randy, a true professional' just before I left the house.. Calm, witty with a dry sense of humor rather than the forced false humor and laughs the other stations promoted. I will truly miss him.
Please tell his family that he brought enjoyment, smiles and a sense of true professionalism to news, a rare combination these days. Guess God needed an intelligent witty person to converse with. We will miss him.
-- Judith Schwager
I don't even know hoe to begin !! I am so sad I feel that I lost one member of my own family. Randy Salerno made watching the news every morning a something to look forward to . I only pray that God gives his family and co-workers strength to go on, and peace in their hearts because an individual like Randy without a doubt is in a better wonderful place.
-- Silvia Sandoval
My Heartfelt condolences to Randy's Family and his Many Many Colleagues.
I truley enjoyed his talent as a newscaster and loved his sence of humor.
Every news station today everyone is so stuned at the untimley death of Randy.
I've watched him for many many years on WGN. Then was happy to see him again on Channel 2. He went from a great fun family on WGN and did not skip a beat when he got to Channel 2. He will truley be missed. We were very lucky to have him in Chicago. This is so hard on all of you his friends and family, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
With sympathy,
Christine Jossund
I used to watch Randy and the cast of WGN circa 1997 in the morning while exercising. I really enjoyed Randy's dry sense of humor. It was more of a party than a newscast. He made me laugh before I went to work. That is a great way to start the day. I will miss him.
-- Ron Piotrowicz
I'm more than just a little shocked and very sad about his loss. Randy had become like a morning friend, someone I looked forward to seeing everyday, so I will admit I cried, I will probably do so more later when I no longer see him everyday. He was so funny and such a joy to watch, helped get you going with a smile towards the day. My heart goes out to his friends and I'm family, I'm so very sorry for your loss. He will be greatly missed. -- Unsigned

-- Mr. & Mrs. Stollfuss
I am truly saddened by the sudden death of Randy Salerno. My heart goes out to Randy Salerno's wife, children and family. I began my work day every weekday by watching the Channel 2 news team. He was truly a charismatic reporter who brought laughter and personality to the delivery of the daily news. I especially loved his quick wit and sense of timing. I often found myself laughing out loud as I prepared for the workday. He will be greatly missed by more than he could possibly have imagined. We lost a unique news reporter who excelled in his profession, who took risks and who made the Chicagoland people feel as if they knew him. What a gem.
-- Eileen Huston
I don't even know where to begin! I saw the first report on Channel 7 and immediately switched to Channel 2 to make sure it was not a lie. I feel like someone kicked me in the gut or sucked the life out of me. Never in life have I felt such a sense of loss and sorrow for someone I did not know on a personal level. I guess that speaks to how good Randy was at reaching through our TV sets each morning and making each of us feel as if he was actually sitting in our homes. I have been off work since Jan. 2 due to surgery and have often suffered with bouts of insomnia, waking between 4:30 and 5:00 am just in time to switch on my TV and see Susan, Randy, Roseanne and Ed. My most recent bout allowed me to observe Randy attempting to tossel Susan's hair after a clip of David Letterman attempting to mess up Senator John Edwards hair was played, at which point...just before the news went off Roseanne and Susan returned tosseled Randy's hair and of course, as was always the case with the Randy we all saw on TV, he took it in stride. This is just one of the memories I will always hold dear, as his WGN friend said, he was soooooooo fine, "eye candy" - but besides being nice to look at and easy on the eyes he was a wonderful news anchor! I will keep his both his families in my heart and prayers during this difficult time!
-- Michelle Freeman
To the CBS 2 News Team: How very sad I am at your loss. I've watched Randy and Roseanne for ages and loved their onair news reporting and wonderful brother-sister-like chemistry. I will miss him he was funny and I thought I was funny. He was the best in the morning I wake up this morning and I was running late and it didn't find out until now. I pray for his family and friends. He was the best in the morning bar. Randy you will be missed. -- Paul Lonzo
I am so sorry to hear of Randy's death. I just can't believe it. I so much enjoyed watching Randy and Roseann in the morning... I live in the suburbs, but people like Randy and Roseanne, and all of you at Channel 2 news make us suburbanites feel like we are part of a greater community. I don't know why I am crying, because I am a grown man, I never met Randy (or any of you TV folks), but you bring the world into my den every day, and I depend on you for telling me what is important to know about the world.
Thank you Randy, for serving us.
-- Paul Blobaum
My sincere condolences to Randy Salerno's wife and 3 children and to his CBS television family. Whenever I am up early, I always tune to Channel 2 to watch Randy, Roseanne, Susan and Ed. They were the only morning team I would want to watch. The wit and humor was just the right for that early hour. I so enjoyed Randy's droll sense of humor and the chemistry between him and his fellow morning show cast of characters. He will be missed.

I have watched Randy and Roseanne since their first day on the morning news. Channel 2 News has always been my "news source of choice." My little cousin, Randy, will be sorely missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him. He was a regular John Wayne with the Super Soaker at the family reunions we had. Although I fell down after he emptied that Super Soaker on me, it was more from laughter than getting wet.
I'll never forget you. You'll always be in my heart.
-- Love, Cathy (Scott) Classen
I watch CBS Chicago every morning with Randy and Roseanne. I was wondering where he was today as I truly look forward to the wonderful broadcast team of those two.
I am deeply saddened by this loss. My heart goes out to his family and friends, this is a horrible loss for them and those who've grown to love him in the early mornings in Chicago.

Upon moving to the Chicago area 3 years ago, the CBS morning news team immediately became and has remained a part of my husband and my regular daily routine. Although we don't any of them personally, it's funny how Randy, Rozanne, Susan, Ed, and Bill have become to feel like almost "family" to us.
The news of Randy's death is a tragedy. Our sincere sympathy and prayers go out to his wife and children, as well as all those who are personally affected. He will be sorely missed.

My deepest condolences to Randy's family, at home, and at work. I had never met Mr. Salerno and found myself always intrigued by his personality. I can't imagine the emptyness the workplace must have without him there.
Still, without ever meeting him, I feel like I lost a friend. I'm a Chicagoan and surrounding suburbian myself since birth and it hurts so deeply to lose one of our own. If anyone exuded the fact that he loved his job, it was Randy.
To Randy: Thank you for giving me and millions of others a reason to look forward to turning on the tv in the mornings.
You will be missed.

It is heart wrenching to watch Randy Salerno's co-workers attempt to keep their composure as they tell of the many memorable moments they spent with Randy. The hurt they were feeling generated through the airwaves and brought me to tears, even though I never knew Randy personally. I wish I could have. My deepest sympathy to his beautiful wife and children. And, especially to his parents. No parent wants their child to precede them in death. God bless them all. -- Marie Zavoli

I remember when Randy was on WGN helping with adopt a pet for the Evanston Animal Shelter animals. One of the dogs that was adopted out had run away and I emailed Randy to ask if he could announce that we were searching for "Lance". As the volunteers walked in the studio, he was already asking what he could do to help find the missing dog.
What a genuine person we have lost. It always felt like he was a part of the family. He will be sorely missed. My condolences his to family and co-workers.

I watched Randy every morning and really enjoyed his sense of humor. He always said something that made me feel good about having to go to work. I felt so terrible about his accident and now wonder who I can watch now that will make me feel like Randy did. I give my prayers to his wife and children and all his co-workers. He will definitely be missed by everyone. I just cannot believe he is gone.
I am so saddened by this tragedy.

This morning when I woke up and turned on the news and saw he wasn't on the air I was so bummed out. I thought "Man it's Friday, where is he"? Randy, Ed, Susan, Roseanne and Kris make my mornings. I love how they interact with one another and bring me the news. They make my morning!!! What a huge loss to many of us, who enjoy the morning news with a cup of coffee. My condolences go out to his family and friends @ CBS.
Sincerely,
Lisa Simon

Randy was THE reason why I watched CBS 2 morning news. Even if you didn't know him personally, you felt like you knew him. He had such a relaxed way of being that really came through on and off camera. His wit, charm, and wonderful sense of timing helped to make him my anchorman of choice each morning. Living in Crystal Lake, I witnessed firsthand his kindness and generosity as well. He always lent a hand whether he was coaching little league or working the cotton candy machine at the elementary school's Winter Carnival. My heart goes out to Irene and the children and I hold them in my prayers. We'll miss you, Randy.

I just want to say that the morning news will never be the same..Randy made it worth watching every morning...I switched over from fox 32 after my son started watching Randy in the mornings and let me say he will be missed.

It's with a heavy heart that I send this email.
I was shocked and saddened to hear about Randy's tragic death.
I only met him a few times but we shared similar career paths. We both began our careers in the Peoria and Rockford markets and even both worked at WIFR-TV as anchors and reporters.
When I first met him at an event last summer at the Museum of Science and Industry, we laughed about our similar beginnings and our hometowns.
He from Crystal Lake and I from Lake Zurich. He was charming, approachable and his smile was as big as he was tall.
On behalf of my fellow co-workers at your radio partners, WBBM-AM, I can speak for all of us in saying that Randy will be sorely missed as a colleague and friend.
My prayers are with his family.
Warm Regards,
Lisa Fielding

We were deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic death of Randy Salerno. We too have watched him on WGN and CBS2 and are loyal fans of him along with Roseanne. May his family, friends. and co-workers find peace and comfort from all of us out here in "tv land" knowing that we care.
-- Karl & Phyllis Burnitz
My heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Randy's family. I couldn't believe what I was hearing on WBBM while driving to work this morning. I grew up watching Randy and Rosannne on WGN and I followed them to CBS. I always enjoyed Randy's quick wit and sense of humor. He was in a league of his own when it came to reporting the news. It is especially sad for me because I am a snowmobiler and have riden up near Eagle River before. I will miss seeing him every day and he will be sorely missed.

It is very difficult for us to believe Randy is gone. He had a wonderful wit, easy going manner that came across to us as listeners. We have followed he and Roseanne ever since their WGN days. They were great to watch they clicked. We will sorely miss him. Our prayer go to his wife and children, his parents and siblings, his television family and Roseanne. We are sorry for your loss. We will all miss this very special person he left us way too soon.

Randy was my favorite. My deepest sadness and prayers go out to his children and wife. My niece and nephew lost my best friend and sister almost two years ago and still struggle as I do. May God tightly hold them all and I pray they will never give up the hope and belief that God will give them peace as myself and my niece and nephew pray for each day. Going back to school was so hard for the children. God will give strength to his wife, please remind her to accept it even though she may not think she can. -- Deione Ott
Randy was the reason to get out of bed in the morning. He made me laugh and started all my days off great. He was funny, witty and very professional. One thing that made him so great is he loved his job. You could tell through his work. His personality shined through every workday and into my home. I feel like I lost a friend. He will be dearly missed. Such a senseless and tragic accident that took away such a selfless and thoughtful person. My prayers and thoughts are with his wife and children, friends and to all of you at cbs.
-- Patricia Prokes

My deepest sympathy goes to Randy's family and to all his friends at Channel 2. I will miss his wit and quick humor. I always enjoyed listening to him in the morning, he often made me laugh. I tuned in this morning and could not believe what I was hearing, that Randy was gone. Every morning I would come down and turn on Channel 2 and have a quick cup of coffee and listen to the news before running out the door.
My prayers are with all those who loved him, especially his beautiful family and his many friends. He will be deeply missed by his community, and all of us who watched him in the morning, as we rushed to begin our day and got a chuckle out of one his great one liners. This is truly a sad day, Peace be with Randy.
-- Lynn from Elgin
Randy, Ed, Susan, Roseanne, and Kris are always the first part of my day. I am always upset if someone sits in while they are one vacation, etc; they are so perfect as a team. It is strange that people that are so important to your day don't know it. I should have taken the time to let them know.
Randy's witty, intelligence and soft side added to his professionalism and brought the team together.
My deepest condolences go out to his wife, children and coworkers.
I know the loss I feel, does not compare.
-- Mary Robb
Our sympathy goes out to the Salerno family. I met Randy at O'Hare International airport and he was very outgoing. He will be dearly missed. He made our mornings easier to get to work and gave me the energy to continue securing our people. He was one of a kind. I know God is very happy to welcome this precious Angel into his Kingdom. We will miss you Randy..
-- Margie Caraballo and family
I just wanted to say how sorry we are that this has happened to such a great person. My family and I don't know Randy personally but we almost feel like we did. I hate to say it but I am not a big news person because it always seems to be so negative but people like Randy seem to change that image. We are truly saddened by this loss and our prayers will be offered up for Randy and his family.
Deepest sympathy,
Joe and Jamie Dix
I would get up earlier just to catch Randy and Rosanne while having breakfast before catching my train to work. Randy was very down to earth and real guy.
A very tragic loss. My sincere condolences to Channel 2 and his family.
-- Ben Maska
When I woke up this morning and saw Vince on, I just thought that Randy and Roseanne were taking the day off and I turned over and went back to sleep.
Around 930am my mom called me and told me the news. I felt as though I had lost a member of my immediate family.
Watching 2 news in the morning won't be the same.
Please send my respect to Randy's news family as well as his oiwn family.
Randy will be totally missed.
-- Glenda Baugh-Johnson
I cannot believe Randy is gone. I just began watching CBS 2 News in the morning about 6 months ago, and honestly Randy was the main person that motivated me to continue to watch. His wit, humor, and simply wonderful demeanor was a welcome addition to my morning coffee.
To all of Randy's friends and family: God Bless you, I send you my prayers and hugs.
Please know that heaven now has a brand new angel.

Since our Family has moved from N.J. to Indiana three years ago, I wake up to watching Randy with my children before they go to school .I have never enjoyed watching a Newscaster as much as I have enjoyed Randy and his great sense of humor and just brilliant at what he does. He made watching the news more interesting as he told the stories well.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to his Family and Friends & Channel Two News. -- Serena Barchi, St. John IN
He was the best. His steadyness during 9/11 set him apart from all others.
I feel as if I have lost a close family member. -- Unsigned
I heard about Randy early this morning. I've been teary-eyed on and off all day. When I came home from work and started watching all the memorial videos on your website, I just burst into tears. I can't believe a total stranger could touch my life in this way. But he didn't seem like a total stranger to me. He seemed like an old friend. As everyone has said, his sarcastic sense of humor was beyond funny. I don't know how I'm going to be able to watch the morning news on Monday. I am going to miss Randy so much.
-- Cindy
Randy you will be missed in ur household. We have been watching you over 5 years straight and my mornings are can't start without the four of you. I miss the wacky things you ands ED did. I also remember the one where one morning you called yourself Roseanne! Or the morning, where he was laying on a cough compalinging about his co-worker Roseanne and she doing the same thing about him. I always had my great mronings with him and the team. And then, you and Ed up to no good tricks during the summer with the Cubs or the Sox!
As I said you will be missed. I feel like I lost a family member.
My heart goes to his family, wife, children, Ed, Roseanne and Susan. Yes because the three of you became his famliy just like I feel he became part of ours.
My prayers go to his entire family and to you at CBS2.

Chicagoland WGN- and CBS-TV staff and viewers have lost a spectacular broadcaster.
Indeed, we will miss Randy's unique personality, wit, and humor coupled with his unpredictable demeanor and infectious smile.
Remember Randy's 2004 Emmy for our Chicago Marathon and his appearance in "Primal Fear"!
I LOVE the CBS Morning team commercial with Randy driving the red convertible!
I pray for Randy's entire family (Irene, Haley, Slone, and Charlie), his parents, his siblings, and the town of Crystal Lake.
May God bless Randy's lifelong friend, Scott, and his family.
And, Roseanne, treasure those unique memories!

My heart just aches for all of you at channel 2 and Randy's beautiful wife and kids. I have been watching all day and just seeing Roseanne was tough let alone all of you. Waking up in the morning and turning them on was like you just had a warm bowl of oatmeal and the way it makes you feel afterwards, warm and comfortable. I also lost both my brothers suddenly at around the same age of Randy and can feel for you how your heart just aches. There is no way to explain it. God Bless and know there is alot of love coming to you all.

Randy Salerno was truly a wonderful father. With all the pressures of traveling downtown for work, he still took the time to volunteer to coach for our sons basketball team. He was an amazing person and will be greatly missed. -- Joette Castro

I was only a viewer of the newscasts on CBS with Randy & Roseanne. He was always a joy to listen to & watch. You never knew what was coming next. You could see in his eyes the joy & love he had for his family when he would speak of them. My heart and sympathy goes out to Randy's family & friends. Both at home & CBS. He seems as though he touched the lives of many! What a joy it must have been to know him personally! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you! He will be sadly missed.

I would like to let you all know how much I enjoyed watching Randy making Roseann laugh as well as the rest of us. The camaraderie he shared with his coworkers was truly wonderful to see. He seemed to put everyone at ease.
