Ryan Baker Joins CBS 2 Sports
CHICAGO (CBS) ―
Ryan Baker has been tapped for the newly created position of CBS 2 Morning News Sports Anchor, it was announced today by Carol Fowler, Vice President/News Director for the station. Baker will also report for CBS 2's various newscasts. He begins work at the station on April 14th.
"Ryan is passionate not only about sports, but about great storytelling and reporting," said Fowler. "Ryan brings an incredible knowledge of sports and a love for Chicago to our weekday morning show. You watch Ryan, and you have no doubt that he has a command of what the fan is talking about and wants to know. It's a thrill to welcome him to CBS 2."
"This is a dream job," Baker said. "I'm honored to be able to continue my sportscasting career in my hometown and to bring the stories behind the players and the games to CBS 2 viewers."
Baker joins CBS 2 from WMAQ-TV in Chicago where he had worked since 2003 as an anchor and reporter for the WMAQ sports team.
He served as the host of the Chicago Bears pre and post game shows on WMAQ and as host of the Bruce Weber Coach's Show on the Big Ten Network.
Baker's recent career highlights include reporting from Athens during the 2004 Olympics. In 2005 he covered the University of Illinois' race to the Final Four and the White Sox historic World Series win. In 2007 he anchored and reported live from Miami during the Bears Super Bowl run.
Before working in Chicago, Baker was a sports anchor at WKMG-TV in Orlando, Fla. (1995-2003). Previously he worked at KFMB-TV in San Diego and in Champaign, Ill. at WCIA-TV and WICD-TV.
Baker is active with the Chicago chapter of the American Diabetes Association and is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. He grew up in the south suburbs and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1991.
