CNN's Lou Dobbs Will Not Run For N.J. Governor

Republican Political Host Owns 300 Acres In Sussex Co.

NEW YORK (AP) ― Rumors of a possible gubernatorial run as a Republican by CNN host Lou Dobbs have been circulating in New Jersey political circles for days.

Well, it's not going to happen.

Dobbs said Friday that while he's flattered by the support, a run in the Garden State isn't something he wants to do at this time.

As the host of "Lou Dobbs Tonight," he's renowned for commentary on national politics, especially illegal immigration.

But the 62-year-old Dobbs, who lives on a 300-acre farm in Sussex County in rural northwestern New Jersey, says he doesn't have the temperament for politics.

Several people earlier this year floated Dobbs' name as an independent presidential candidate, but Dobbs told the Wall Street Journal in January that he wasn't planning to run.

"I haven't got the personality or nature to be a politician," he said.

But he also added, "I cannot say never."

Dobbs was registered to vote in Sussex County as a Republican, but changed to an independent in 2006, according to the county elections board.

Democratic Gov. Jon S. Corzine, a former Goldman Sachs chairman who became a multimillionaire on Wall Street before entering politics, has said he intends to run for re-election next year.
