Jesse White Wants 4th Term As Secretary of State

If He Wins, He'll Set A Record

CHICAGO (AP) ― If Jesse White has his way, he'll serve a record fourth term as Illinois' secretary of state.

White says he has no other interest politically than to continue in his present job and seek re-election in 2010. He says he'd be proud to complete at least 16 years as secretary of state.

White is 74 now and would turn 80 in what would be the final year of a fourth four-year term.

The Chicago Democrat won his last general election in 2006 with more than 1 million votes more than his Republican opponent.

He's only the second black politician to have been elected to a statewide office in Illinois. The other was Roland Burris, who was attorney general and state comptroller.
