On Monday, CBS 2 warned you about unscrupulous ticket brokers who are charging outrageous fees for tickets to the inauguration - tickets you can get for free from your congressman. Today, CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports with some important information you need to know about the inaugural parade.
The inaugural parade is when the new president takes a ride down Pennsylvania Avenue to wave to the public. The question is do you need to buy a ticket? The answer is - yes and no.
If you take a look at parades from the past, about 30 percent of the route is lined with bleachers. You'll need a ticket to sit in the bleachers and the cost depends on where you are on the route. But the other 70 percent, where you can stand on the street is free and open to the public.
However, there are numerous websites selling parade tickets to spots along the route, and not just bleacher seats. They're charging hundreds of dollars.
Congressman Danny Davis says it's money you'll be throwing away.
"For somebody to say they're going to sell you some space on the street, that we can guarantee you a spot along the street. That you may not be able to get to if you don't get there before it gets crowded and other people are also there - than that's kind of ludicrous," Davis said.
So save your money if you'll be standing on the street. If you want to sit in the bleachers, you'll eventually be able to buy a ticket through the inauguration committee. For more info, visit
