Clinton Campaigns In Hobart; Mum On Wright Scandal

HOBART, Ind. (CBS) ― Sen. Hillary Clinton got the support of the governor of North Carolina Tuesday.

CBS 2 Political Editor Mike Flannery reports Clinton is making an appearance Tuesday evening at the home of a 44-year-old union apprentice in Sheet Metal Workers Local 20 and his work-at-home-wife in Hobart, Ind.

She arrived on foot with dozens of journalists and cameras recording it all. Clinton strolled through the neighborhood before arriving at the home.

"My campaign is about jobs. Jobs, jobs and jobs," Clinton said. "If you look at these homes in this really nice neighborhood, people who built these homes and lived in them a long time felt pretty good about being able to have a job, a job that paid a good wage and a job that supported a family. And not it's a lot more uncertain."

Heavily Democratic northwest Indiana is a key battleground in the state.

Sen. Barack Obama once had a small lead among Hoosiers, but the latest polling, done Sunday and Monday, shows Clinton suddenly leading 50 percent to 42 percent.

That comes in the wake of a series of speeches by Obama's former pastor the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

Johnnie Parker, the host of Clinton's stop in Hobart Tuesday, agrees the sudden celebrity of Wright isn't helping Obama.

"It tells me, when he becomes president, what is he actually going to do for us?" Parker said.

Clinton, famously and relentlessly self-disciplined, is saying nothing about the ongoing controversy.
