Viewer Comments: Impeachment Of Gov. Blagojevich

CHICAGO (CBS) ― We asked 'What are your thoughts on the impeachment of Gov. Rod Blagojevich?' Here is what you said:

It's about time, all the people who voted for this guy should lose their right to vote. This guy has put this state in terrible financial crisis. We had funds for road work and other infrastructure for our state and we lost it all about $26 billion, no construction work for 9 years of being in office. Remember $1 billionĀ is 40,000 jobs. He needs to be unemployed with no compensation and all his political money should go into the state budget, he should have been impeached when he took money from the tollway to balance the budget. That money was never to be touched for balancing state budgets. He was a thief for that. What makes people think he would not sell that Senate seat? Wake up fellow Illinoisans. - Kevin Piacenza

If Roland Burris cannot have his appointment, I'd like President-Elect Obama's seat thank you. I have no connection to Governor Blagojevich nor any of the other politicians awaiting their possible "turn". What happened to "Innocent until proven Guilty"? It amazes me that this state is unfortunately controlled by Mike Madigan and his daughter, Lisa. Smells so much like a witchhunt it stinks! Shame on our politicians for acting without proven cause. Typical Illinois politics that needs a drastic change. - Martinez

He abused his powers so he got it coming. Time for Rod to join Ryan as his new cellmate. - KP

Time to share a cell with Ryan. He misused both his power & our trust. He does not speak for citizens of Illinois & should be impeached immediately. -- Sue

Should be impeached - should pass a mandatory psychiatric exam also. -- KP Marsh

It is about time! He needs to be held accountable for his misdeeds just like Mr. George Ryan! I hope that the Senate feels the same way as the House did! – Angela

The Governor knows he's history, he just making sure that the maximum cost will be incurred to the state and the taxpayers. It's his only way of "getting back" at the voters and law makers for making him the laughing stock of the country, even though he made his bed himself and now he has to lie in it. On another front, he has mentioned that the voters voted him in, sure we did but does he remember the choice we had at the time. It was enough for one to write in "NONE OF THE ABOVE!" - Chris Mazzone

What else could you expect from the Chicago political machine? Maybe the media should take the gloves off and go after Daley next. I can think off 20 people I know that are highly qualified to work for the city but the only thing that keeps their jobs is they sell tickets for fundraisers and donate money. It's the Chicago way. Hopefully will the Governor goes down he takes Daley's machine with him. – Mike

Mr. Quinn, kiss your political career "goodbye". Since you were so quick to stab your boss in the back, who would want you as an employee? – lreed

I like him and want him to stay. I think he did a lot for people in this state, especially in medical access. - M. Mongan

This is Chicago politics as usual, but he got caught and must pay the price. It's a sad day For Chicago! - Robert King

Reminds me of the Salem Witch Trials. Blagojevich has not been tried yet, and everyone charged is "supposedly" innocent until proven guilty. Has the Illinois State House changed this law? – lreed

The voters and non-voters are getting what we deserve by following the directives of the politicians of Chicago and their backing of Blagojevich. A real, honest person can't be elected in the local, county, state or federal level in this state. If you don't get the backing of the head politicians you can't get elected. This even goes for judges. Politics is a sporting event in Chicago and all of Illinois. - Edithe Cavanaugh

I was so glad to see him impeached and I hope he does some time behind bars for what he did. I think that he is using tax payers for his fringe lawyers. It is getting to where we can't trust any of people elected to any political office. Give me a break like I will ever vote AGAIN for any position. Thanks. – Al

Gov. Rod Blagojevich should be impeached and it should be done now! he's corrupt and the senators that are not voting for impeachment I'll assume their corrupt to. It's unbelievable his boldness and total disregard for our state, He's a disgrace, if he was really concerned for the people of IL. He'd step down. - Colleen Mills

Blago just lost some of his hair with more to come! – Paul Malco

This is an event that is hopefully the beginning of the end for Blago and rampant corruption in Illinois. His conduct today was disgraceful. I run a small not for profit nursing facility in Chicago that cares for older adults on Medicaid. We have not been paid by this state since June of 2008 for the care of these individuals. Blago cares for the disabled- WHO DOES HE THINK HE IS KIDDING?? I'll inform my accounting office that because Blago cares so much for the disabled, our bills will now be paid. - Julie Boggess

I do not believe for one minute that he would deny any children medical care. Look at his record for the little guys. - Christine Panek

He isn't doing anything that other politician are doing. They all take money or it is called donated to an organization, even Fitzgerald has donated or he wouldn't have the job he has. – Sarah

I believe impeachment is the only choice. With all that has been brought forth he has lost the confidence of the people of Illinois. – Rose

I am glad he is impeached. Anyone who has abused power given to him by the people, who put their trust in him and believed that he would do what was right and appropriate with that power, should not hold public office. He has now broken the people's trust. We can no longer trust him to act on the people's behalf, as he has violated that trust, and misused his power. - Amanda Pearson

For the good of the State of Illinois, Gov. Blagojevich should resign and spare us the expense of a trial in the Senate and further embarrassment. - Alan Gerstner

Mr. Madigan finally gets his way! - Patrick Flannery

he didn't do nothing wrong. every seat or position in government is bought from floor interns to senate seats. Either pay with cash or under table, bids or campaign contributions. to work as paige on floor is won with contributions or know someone running for off he wins and you kiss ass for a job there. As for him he got caught others didn't!!!! - vertnon umgelder

Afterwards they should impeach Mike Madigan and Lisa Madigan. tell her she'll never be governor. the states two biggest clowns. – Dalewiatrowski

Yes I think the gov. should be out of office. I wonder if George Ryan has a cellmate. Wouldn't that be a kick. - Sue Warso

I am flabbergasted at politicians who feel they are above the law. And I am frankly disappointed in Barack Obama's cabinet picks. He is picking politicians! I thought he was going to pick experts from universities and industry. - Bobbie Kay

: get him out at once-get the legislators back to business to rescue what's left of its workforce. He's a scumball. - Harold Fricke USN Ret.

Step has been taken by the House. Now the Senate s/b encourages to act swiftly....fairly, but swiftly. A drawn out affair will cost the State too much. Both the Hse and Senate need to move on to our budget issues. - don henry

How arrogant is this guy? The Senate does not have to vote for him never to hold office again, he will never get elected for anything from a cell. – Craig

Remove from office ASAP. - Janet Syverson

Someone should throw a shoe at this man. Seriously, if he is not removed from office, then we have set the standard for future governor behavior. We would be saying that everything he did is acceptable. He must be removed! - Joseph J. Matula

The comments I am hearing about Blago are disheartening. The last time I checked, a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. However, what I am hearing in the new (television, internet, etc.), you'd think Blago has already been tried and convicted. That being said, if in fact Blago is guilty of the charges, then yes, he should suffer the consequences of his actions. Otherwise, I think that all parties involved - this includes all gov't officials who are voting and publically commenting against Blago - should curb their specific judgemental comments and set a good example for the our youth. On another note, I think it's a travesty that our tax dollars will be spent to try this case instead of those funds going to support other very worthy causes. There are thousands of people out of work and many without insurance. Is this what my tax dollars are really going to support? Gov't corruption trials? It's a very sad day in history. – J

It's about time! No matter how stubborn Blago remains, there is no possible way he will manage to get anywhere beyond 1% of senators, let alone two-thirds of them! - Katie Flannery

I think that this whole issue has been blowin way out of proportion. I think that our Governor is innocent. He shouldn't be impeached without everyone hearing all the evidence, and without a fair trial in a court of law. This is a conspiracy, lynchmob and witchhunt against Governor Rod Blagojevich. The biggest disappointment here is that the people of our state are lemmings. – Andrew

It would appear he needs to be ousted and needs to go to prison. I have there is enough to prove this beyond a reasonable doubt. All he is doing now by remaining in office is costing us money and keeping the state from running properly and efficiently. - Donna Berk

I begin to have hope our elected officals will stand on their own two feet and fight for the citizens of this state. I applaud the action today. -D. Huff

The governor's statement today did not answer any questions or explain any actions to the people of the state of Illinois. This reminded me of John McCain in the Presidential Debates. He answered questions, but not the ones that were asked. I have always said, "If you can't dazzle them with delight, bafffle them with BS". His statement was a perfect example of this in practice. Also, why does the Governor not reside and work in Springfield during a normal work week? The last time I checked the capitol is in Springfield. Taxpayers pay for him to have a house there. Does Gov. Blago know that Springfield isn't even in Cook County? How can he stay in touch with the people if he doesn't leave the county. Has he ever been south of I-80? Maybe President Elect Obama should run the country from his house in Hyde Park. His daughters would not have to change schools and Michelle could keep her job! -Laurie Edwards
