Olympic gold medal swimmer Michael Phelps is coming to Chicago next week to back the city's bid for the 2016 Summer Games.
Phelps enjoys worldwide name recognition after winning a record eight gold medals at the Beijing Olympics earlier this month.
Chicago's Olympic organizers announced Thursday that Phelps will be in Chicago Sept. 3.
Organizers did not immediately release details of his visit.
Chicago is a finalist for the 2016 games along with Tokyo; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and Madrid, Spain.
Phelps said in a statement that it's a privilege to lend his support to Chicago's bid.
