Olympic Decision Viewing To Close Downtown Streets
Clark Street To Close, Other Streets May Too
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) ―
Call it a taste of 2016, but the city's downtown viewing bash for the announcement 2016 Olympic host will lead to the closures of some streets and reroutes of CTA buses starting Thursday night.
From 8 p.m. Thursday until 4 p.m. Friday, Clark Street between Randolph and Washington will be closed to all traffic, according to the Office of Emergency Management and Communications. During this time, two CTA bus routes -- the southbound No. 22 Clark and the No. 24 Wentworth -- will be detoured to adjacent streets, the transit agency says.
Additionally, according to OEMC, the east curb lane on Clark between Randolph and the Daley Center garage was closed at 10 a.m. Wednesday for event load-in. That east curb lane closure will be extended south to Washington on Wednesday night for production staging.
Viewing of the bid announcement will be held at Daley Plaza between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday.
Police may need to close additional streets for the gathering Friday morning, and in that event, Dearborn between Washington and Randolph, and Washington between Clark and Dearborn could be closed to traffic.
If so, the No. 22 Clark, No. 36 Broadway, No. 62 Archer, No. 24 Wentworth, No. 20 Madison, No. X20 Washington/Madison Express, No. 60 Blue Island/26th, No. 157 Streeterville/Taylor and No. 56 Milwaukee buses will be rerouted downtown, according to the CTA.
Commuters -- and probably drivers -- are advised to allow extra travel time during this period. The CTA notes that estimated arrival times for buses that are rerouted are not available on its Bus Tracker Web site.
