Chicago 2016 Team Returns Home

Daley: "upset and disappointed" about bid, but said Chicago has a bright future.

CHICAGO (AP) ― Chicago Mayor Richard Daley said he's upset and disappointed the city lost its bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.

But he said Chicago has a future "just as bright as anyone else" even without the economic stimulus that the Olympics would have delivered. Daley and the Chicago 2016 delegation arrived at O'Hare International Airport on Saturday from Copenhagen without the Olympic rings.

The International Olympic Committee on Friday awarded the games to Rio de Janeiro after quickly eliminating Chicago in the first round of voting.

Daley said this was Chicago's time to bid and laid out a scenario that made another Chicago Olympic bid seem unlikely.
